you will have to drain the washer no matter what. scoop out as much of the water as you can. carefully pull it out and remove the lower panel. if it is an old one, the belt could be bad. it could be a bad motor or a bad timer also. if the belt IS bad, you must determine if the belt just wore out or if something locked up i.e. the water pump. also just a long shot, wiggle the timer around in different settings and see if it makes an effort. if it does then you need a new timer.

if the only problem you have is that its not draining, your pump may be clogged. not a hard repair if your unit has a lower access panel in the frt remove then you will see pump. take off hoses and look inside of the pump and the boot, that would be the blk thing with ribbs in it that hooks up to the pump, they call it a coin trasp, you would be amased at what we pull out of those pumps.bye the picture it looks like its a frg , frg makes 2 models older styles have the access panel newer ones dont. if no access panel in frt then you need to get in from back if not then it would be a major repair to fix .

May be the lid switch. Canyou hear the switch click when you close the lid? It will be just before the lid is all the way down.

I would suspect the timer unit--it controls all functions. I would replace the lid switch as it is a safety feature, but you have obviously worked without it. It's mainly for curious kids.

If it starts up before you close the door its probably defective door switch

You probably have a blockage in your drain line, or it has become kinked due to an unbalanced load. If you can access the back of washer, check for kinks, if no kicks , hook a shop vac to the drain hose and see if it will **** the obstruction out of drain line. If this doesn't work you may have to remove the water from the washer and remove the drain line an check & remove the obstruction.

Pick up a drain auger at your local hardware store or plumbing supply house. A general-purpose hand-operated one isn't expensive. Run it down the drain and it should clear out the clog that is causing the backup. It's likely just lint that's builtup, unless someone is missing a sock.
