Unfortunately Lexmark X73 is not Vista compatible, and Lexmark does not seem intentioned in releasing Vista drivers.

I didn't think I would have this much trouble finding a solution to my problem. I thought you people would be able to help me. I am going to buy another printer, but not a Lexmark.

must have both cartrages in to work. insert another one turn off and restart his should solvre problem

Unplug the printer and then start the installation, the installation will tell you when to plug in printer.

is there's nothing from lexmark, who makes the drivers, then there's nothing to it. you could set up a print server, and maybe that will do it.

This is problem when the encoder strip is out of place you need to follow these steps carefully :


To resolve this issue:

1. Open the front cover of the printer and locate the encoder strip. This is the thin silver/clear strip that runs across the printer behind the cartridge carrier. If the encoder strip has come out, it will cause the printer to go into a carrier stall.
2. Remove the power from the printer and slide the cartridge carrier to the middle of the printer.
3. Place your index finger on each side of the carriage onto the encoder strip.
4. Slightly push it down and back up to get the strip back into the slot. (On the back of the cartridge carrier, there is a small slot that the encoder strip fits into.)

NOTE ::: Please do it gently do not break the strip or it cannot be used again...

if all you're seeing is this warning at the point of installing a Lexmark driver on Windows XP, this is considered normal. The compatibility warning occurs with many devices that will still install on XP... I've found no reason that proceeding with the installation of the X73 has any harmful effect on Windows XP.

Having a X73 myself, it uses a transformer to reduce the voltage, the output on this transformer is (from memory) around 30 volts DC, about 1.5 amps (1500 milliamps) output. Let me know if your machine had a transformer also, as I am in Australia I do not know what your power requirements are. I can advise as to further details if needed as I believe some OLD HP transformers are/were similar in voltage output. Send e-mail with X73 in heading to [email protected], that way I know you are keenly interested in follow up, I can check further then.

paper was jamed at one point turn off printer with no paper in cartriage turn printer back on

its attached to the printer with tiny screws on both the sides with proper tools you can remove the rollers.

I was having a similar problem. After finding the service manual (4402_X73.pdf) and taking the thing apart, an ink-covered broken spring fell from the inside. I checked around the 'Maintenance Station' and found the other half still hanging. Apparently -because I haven't got a replacement yet to confirm- the spring goes across the bottom of the 'Maintenance Station' to a lever on the other side. If someone can tell me where to post a picture of the thing, I'll gladly do it.

3-something in the paper path blocking it

Sounds like a piece of paper is stuck inside the machine. Open all access doors and check. Remove the printer cartridge and reinsert. Make sure the print job has been purged from the queue.
