Lexmark to HP problem
I've never successfully connected a Lexmark USB printer to a Parallel port with an adapter as the adapter doesn't provide bi-directional commP, use a USB powered hub, if the system doesn't have USB, try an USB expansion PCI card

- Depending on which cartridges you are using and which printer model you have, select Install Color Cartridge or Install Black Cartridge or Install Photo Cartridge.

- Enter the number as the Bi-directional Alignment setting in the Alignment Cartridge screen.
- Click OK.

Refilled #4 & #5 Lexmark cartridges and
Refilled cartridges are a pain. The small circuit board on the cartridge is deformed when you place the new cartridge into the printer. After you refill the cartridge, the same circuit board is then deformed again when it is fitted. If any of those deformations do not line up with the original ones, you get issues like this one or you get dropouts in the printed characters. This is because the circuit is no longer touching the pads on the print carriage. You cannot remove these deformations without damaging the cartridge. My advice is purchase a printer which does not have the print head attached to the cartridge, like a canon ip1000. Look for something that has ink tanks rather then a print cartridge, or only use new cartridges in your lexmark.

Lexmark z11 Vista Compatible?
Looks like I've cracked it [Touches wooden desk]. Need a USB to IEEE 1284 36-pin Parallel Printer Cable, like the one I received today (ordered yesterday from
www.cables2u.co.uk). First, connect it to Z11. Turn on Z11 and boot up Vista PC/laptop. (I run Vista Business on my laptop.) Connect cable to computer. Message appears "Installing device driver software". Click it for status. 'Found New Hardware' box appears. Click 'Locate and install driver software'. A message appears "Error loading LXADSUI.DLL. Specified module could not be found". Click 'OK'. Message appears saying driver software installed successfully. ["Yeah, right ..."] (Have faith, folks!) Now, click Start, then Control Panel and double-click Printers. Right click on Z11 and click on Set As Default Printer. Right click on Z11 again and click on Properties. Check on Ports tab that Port USB is ticked for Z11. On Cartridge Maintenance tab, check right cartridge is showing. If not, click 'Install/Change Cartridge' and follow instructions. Then 'Clean Print Nozzles' and 'Align Cartridges'. Check settings on the other tabs in Properties look OK and try printing a test page! It looks good to me!

Put in new cartridge and unit will not print.
It may be caused by some issues. Check:
* Did you remove the plastic from the connections from the cartridge as the instructions indicates?
* Is the cartridge connector from the printer ok?
* Is the cartridge correctly installed?
* It's a new cartridge? I mean, NEW. Not refilled one or a cartridge that expired two years ago.
* Try running one or two "Clean printer head" procedure to see if ink flows.
Good luck !

Triple vertical printing with Z11
Here's what worked for me: (I'm using a black ink cartridge, but my 'printer properties' were set for a color cartridge, thus basically sending a '3-color signal' to my printer; making it print in triple vertical.)
Go to Settings > Control Panel > Printers. Right click on your printer, and click Properties. Click the Cartridge Maintenance tab, then click Install / Change Cartridge. Select the cartridge you are using in the drop-down list, and click Continue. Print an Alignment Page. If this dosen't work, close everything and try it again: I had to do it twice to get mine to work. Hope this helps!
