Lexmark Z53 Color InkJet Printer Questions & Answers
Z53 printer cartridge won't move to the left
I would suspect that there is something along the track that's blocking the printhead carrier from moving left. Do a visual inspection of the entire track area. Try ((very carefully - do not force)) moving the carrier by hand and check for a blockage.
If you don't find anything, try unplugging for a few minutes and then try again (powerline glitch?).

No, the Z53 is an old printer and Lexmark has not created Vista drivers for it. You might look at the Lexmark Z1300 which you can get for about $30.
Printing
Check on your color (not mono) ink levels. If they are low, this could cause this.
Technical info: On this printer, envelope text is printed in "composite black" which means we mix the colored inks to make black. This is done for envelopes and not letters because of the ink properties which resist water and smear. If one of the colors is low, you'll get something other than black.
Printer has ink, but will not print.
First I would start from scratch.... Remove printer in control panel by deleting then run the add new printer set up wizard and follow the easy install steps...If still not printing you need to run the maintenance program on printer.. Remove the ink cartridges and reinstall making sure they are fully seated in the carriage..Then clean print nozzles, align page and then try to print a test page....if it still doesnt print make sure printer is communicating with computer..if it isnt then check that you are connected to the correct port ...Good Luck!!!!
Driver software
try to install again, and try to use run administrator because somtime the program cannot run in vista except you run as administrator. just rigth clik the file .exe then run as administrator.
if the same problem check you operating system maybe some file needed to complate the instalation of your frinter.
thanks
Z53 light flashes but will not print..reset ink cart twice
Please follow the instructions given below:
1. Disconnect the USB cable and the printer power cable.
2. Please disconnect the power supply from the back of the printer.
3. Then remove the cartridges from the printer.
4. Please reconnect the power supply back and turn on the printer.
5. If lights are blinking then printer encoder strip is most likely the problem. Unplug the power from the printer. Open the front cover and move the cartridge carrier to the center. You should see a white ribbon cable, a thin plastic strip and a black belt with teeth.
6. The thin plastic strip is the encoder strip. It rides in a sensor on the back of the cartridge carrier that you will not be able to see. Reach in with the first finger of either hand and carefully strum the strip as if playing a guitar.
7. The strip will need to be lowered slightly and brought towards you slightly. Please be careful not to break the strip or your printer will not function. Once you believe the strip is set correctly, plug the power back and let us know if the lights are still blinking.
8. If you cannot repair the strip, please let us know so that we can assist you further.
Please Note: Fixing the encoder strip is a delicate procedure. During the troubleshooting, if the strip breaks, you will not be able to use the printer. We will replace the printer, only if it is under warranty.
9. However, if lights are not blinking then try inserting one cartridge at a time and check if you can see any lights blinking. If light blinks with one cartridge then that cartridge is defective.

I think this blinking probably means something. Try checking the user's guide. It's at:

Blinking light
I reseated the color cartridge and--Bingo!--the light quit flashing and the printer started printing.
