with lexmark printers yout try the following steps

1) unpluged all cables including the power cable.

2) press and hold the on/off switch for 20 seconds

3) reconnect all the cables and then try.

IF it does not work then reinstall the drivers

Did you reset the photoconductor (drum) counter ?

You have to do this manually, as there is no chip on the photoconuctor, so the printer doesn't know its been changed.

Do a test print directly from the printer, just press the blue lit button.

Look for the Toner AND Photoconductor bar graphs.

The Photoconductor may well be at the end of its life.

Quite common for the paper feed rollers to wear out on this model.
Remove the paper tray, and look up under the printer where you took the tray from. You should see 2 black rubber 'wheels' feed rollers. They shold look flat black and feel 'grippy'
if they're shiny and smooth, they're stuffed. you will need to replace them . (A pair)

Find a shop that services your printer, and get an estimate. That will determine whether to buy a new one, and it's often more economical to do that. Good luck!

The problem is that the printer thinks that there is a paper jam inside the printer. What could be happening is that there was a paper jam the paper was pulled out but the actual sensor that detected the paper probably got damaged, either broken or malfunctioning. In this case try the following, turn off the printer and open the front cover. Then press and hold down the two front buttons while having the cover open and turn the printer on. Then wait untill the bottom light stays on solid then release the buttons that should reset the printer. If after that the paper jam error does not go away then you are probably looking at a damaged sensor. To fix that you will have to take it in to have it service.

If the main problem is just the toner light on then what you could do after installing the new toner is resetting the printer. You could do that by powering the printer off, open the front cover (as if you were to replace the toner) with the front cover open and the printer off push and hold the two buttons on the printer and turn the printer on while holding down the buttons then once the bottom light stays on solid, release the two buttons and that should reset the printer.
Now if the toner light is blinking that means that you have reached the 30,000 page mark and the Photoconductor needs to be replaced. If that is not the case you can follow this link to a procedure where it will explain how to reset the Photoconductor. http://bit.ly/91SWS3

The burning smell can be cause by the Fuser. Maybe a piece of paper got jammed or if you have used any special media like labels or glossy paper if any of that got stuck in the fuser it will stay there until its burned out. Another thing could be that the HVPS is shorting out thus causing the smoke and the burning smell. The best option is to inspect the interior of the fuser and make sure there are no paper jammed in it.

You may not see a paper jam.

This may work for you, it has worked for many here I given this advice so gave it a try it could work for you. Generally when this happens, something has fallen into the printer, or a piece of paper has been jammed in there.

First step, remove the ink cartridge, and turn the printer upside down and gently shake it, see if anything comes out.

If nothing goes, or you can't hear anything rattling around, get a piece of cardstock paper (60lb or heavier) and gently push this through the printer, to see if it will help push out what might be stuck in there.
And gave the rode that the ink slides on a good clean and maybe a bit oil on cloth and wipe the rod with it.
