It does not have a dedicated phono socket at all. You might be able to hook up a turntable using one of the other analogue audio sockets, but you would also need a cartridge preamplifer to connect.
You can look at the user manual online free, by just putting in:
sony str dg520 to Google. You will see a PDF file for it.

I located an online PDF manual that covers your receiver unit. The cover has a different model Sony number on it but it is the same unit. It will give you a comprehensive run down on connecting it to your other home entertainment devices and all the functions -

The eject mechanism has jammed. You will need to open the unit up and see what has caused the tray mechanism to stop in one place and also test the sensor switch on the tray carrier. This is a common fault with this design of mechanism (mostly from wear and tear/use). While you have the casing off it, give the tray and carrier slides a light clean with ear buds/Q tips and tissues. Debris can cause the tray mech not to move smoothly. If you feel that this is out of your scope of ability to fix, take it into a shop and have it serviced professionally as you could inadvertently damage your CD player.

Hook mp3 up to eq input then run rca out of eq into rear input of amp.

Usually the cause is a tape that is too tight between the pinch wheel and rear capstan due to a tight cassette or the rear capstan dragging, perhaps because the brake hasn't disengaged.

Some models of amp have the ability to switch speakers off. So look at the settings of the speakers. Most models have test tones for the speakers. Run that and see if it actually applies the test. If it doesn't then they might be switched off.
The other cause is the output devices for those channels have failed. The amp may use a device that powers both the channels, but separate ones for the others.

It seems that the auto return mechanism is out of place or damaged. You might need to look at the underside of the deck, by taking the bottom off it.

Fuses only blow when there is a short circuit. In your case it sound like the main amplifier has been playing up and tripping the circuit. But now something has gone completely, but no longer trips the protection circuit. I would have a look inside and pay close attention to the main power amp board. If there is an IC on it suspect that.

Try changing the belts that control the cd mechanism. There is one belt on the bottom that drives the cd assembly and two smaller ones in the left and right of unit. One controls the cd eject function the other controls the cd selection option. This particular linear skate cd system needs to have its belts changed otherwise the motors won’t work the mechanism at all.

Yes, this would be normal. It spins the disk and fills an internal "buffer", which then plays until it is ready to fill the buffer again. This improves resistance to being moved around while playing.

Either it's not plug in right or the lead is faulty.

Unless your sound system has a dedicated input for a magnetic cartridge you will need a preamplifier with an input sensitivity of just a few millivolts and RIAA correction. The output for an input in the region of 5mv should be around 1 volt.
