Hi, the two equipments are amplifiers, and the Sony is also Receiver, the possible connections are level, low signal and you can leave the "REC OUT" of the Sony and enter AUX in the Sansui, in this way, everything that comes in stereo on the Sony, will exit by rec out and enter the auxiliary on the Sansui

Hello Judd, we would have to start at the beginning of the chain of elements that allow us to reproduce the disc
first, observe the capsule holder and verify the capsule connections, the standard says looking at the capsule connections, with the pua down, the red wire is the R output of the capsule to the right upper leg of the capsule, the cable white, output L, is connected to the upper left leg, the blue wire, output mass R, to the lower left leg and the green wire, output mass L, to the lower right leg
Having this in order, you should corroborate with the help of a tester, that each position indicated above be repeated in the connections of the arm, for which you would put the tester in continuity position and control that there was no short circuit among the living of the testers. channels in the RCA
This is to check, the connection from the capsule to the RCA connectors
If this is done, the problem persists, try the tray on another computer and see if the failure continues, if you do not have a problem in your phone's pre-phono

Sony have used integrated circuit type output modules for lots of years and the best of this type of output has overload/overheat protection but mostly cheaper variants are used that don't tolerate overload very well.

The sound can only come out of the speakers when the amplifier provides the electrical signal that is in reality the processed power supplied by the power supply. The bigger the sound, the more power has to be supplied and processed and while most domestic hi-fi will tolerate a brief overload, because mass market manufacturers don't make things any better than they need to be, lots of heat will very quickly be generated in several parts of the circuit often leading to the sort of failure needing attention from a repair shop.

If you are lucky the cost will be less than the price of a replacement...

Manual here: https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/res/manuals/2895/28959611M.pdf
If you go into the settings you may find that it is set on stereo and not multi speaker.

Try unplugging speaker wires from unit then power on. If it still says it u have an internal short. If it doesnt hook one speaker up at a time and see if it says it. Might be bad speaker or wiring.

This item is discontinued, but your best bet to find one is on ebay.com. There are no new ones currently listed, but several used ones. If you could find a new one, it would be a used one as soon as you turn it on, so the difference may not be meaningful, right?
