I may have stumbled on a solution. In the past every time I installed the software from the CD it turned off the Windows Firewall.

The Webcam worked for a few hours then began showing the error.
This time, I turned off the Windows Firewall, the anti-virus software, and Windows automatic update. After installation, I turned all of them back on.

The Webcam has been working flawlessly for the past two days.
I think there is more then one culprit that causes the error.

First, the Windows Firewall second is when one adjusts the Taskbar using msconfig.

I strongly suggest that you do not turn off any of the installed Logitech startup icons.

Logitech quick cam communication deluxe will not install

Ok, take a breath... What has happened, is although you uninstalled the Logitech software, the folders still exist (as with any program uninstallation).

Unless you're comfortable with poking around your C drive, then download and run a program called "ccleaner" at www.ccleaner.com, which in a normal scenerio will remove redidual files left behind by an uninstall.

Once you have installed ccleaner, choose "tools" and use their uninstaller to remove the logitech software (if it shows on the program list).Even if it doesnt show, still run the "cleaner" function", as there will always be temp files lurking around that could mess up an installation.

Then, go to Logitech's site and get the latest software for your camera model.

Be sure to NOT plug the camera in until it tells you to do so!! THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!!!

You may have to go into Skype's video configuration utility to setup the cam, but I think you can take it from there. Good luck!

Camera freezes

Is there aniother app running in the background, hit ctrl, alt delete, and it will bring up the task mgr. that will show you what is running, you may have something that you aren't aware of. If not it's just telling you that you need more ram, random access memory, is what handles applications that you run, and if there is not enough ram, it can cause windows to send all sorts of messages which don't really mean what they sound like they do. If possible add more ram and the problem will go away, or you will continue to have this problem

Logitech Effects / Avatars not working under Windows XP

If you are using Windows XP, and have tried to use the avatars or effects on a Logitech 4000 (and most other Logitech cameras) and the green arrow is 'grayed out', this is what is wrong:

Some of those 'speed up your computer' programs tend to disable un-needed services which run in the background of Windows.

Unfortunately, Logitech software needs one of these services to run in order for the avatars and effects to work correctly. Even Logitech themselves don't know why it needs this service running, but it does!

Keep in mind, this is a tip for Windows XP!

To make sure the needed service is running:

1. Click 'START', and go into 'CONTROL PANEL'

2. Once in control panel, click on 'Administrative Tools':

3. In Administrative tools, click on 'Services':

4. Scroll down to the 'Terminal Services'. (the screenshot shows Indexing Service):

5. If you see that 'Terminal Services' is disabled, that's your problem!

6. Highlight 'Terminal Services' and right click on it. Choose 'Properties'.

7. Change the 'Startup Type' to 'Automatic'.

8. Click 'Apply', then 'OK'.

9. Close out of the services menus.

Restart computer, and enjoy your avatars!
