If your laptop is still under warranty, contact dell and they should be able to fix it free of charge, The same thing happened to my laptop a few years ago and fortunately, it is still under warranty, The fault is the charger itself which dell replaced free of charge.

If there is no separate power supply the usb plug must be used in order to provide power for the speakers, but whether the analogue cable must be plugged in or not will depend on the internal construction and specification of the speakers. I suggest you initially use the usb and if there is no sound and no on-screen instructions, plug in the analogue line. Is there a battery back up somewhere on your computer? It could have failed. Or at least something connected with it. It could be an electronic fault. Bad capacitors etc. I assume they have ruled out a virus?

My daughter had the same trouble with her Dell computer. The guy who was reloading Windows found the additional drivers on the Dell website. The Dell recovery disc supplied with a new machine already contain those drivers.
