Belkin F1DK102P 2-port KVM Switch - Page 3 Questions & Answers
2-port KVM switch mouse & keyboard connected to wrong display
I have installed several of these KVM switches before... that's not normal. It sounds like there's a manufacturer's defect which is causing the video to link up with the wrong keyboard/mouse cables. If you just bought it, I'd recommend returning it and getting a replacement.
USB Peripheral Switch F1U201.401
Have you looked at the instructions? Here's a link to the Belkin manual for this product:

It looks very straight forward. You need to install the driver software on each of the computers then run a USB cable from each computer to the USB switch. Connect these cables to the end of the USB switch that has the four sockets. Next run a USB cable from the end of the USB switch with one socket to the device you wish to control.
When you want to use the USB device from a computer you can select it by right clicking on the USB status icon in the task bar and selecting "Switch" or you can use the hotkey Ctrl+F11 for Windows or Alt+F11 for Mac.
If you find this solution useful I hope you'll rate it...unfortunately most people don't seem to find the time. People like myself are not getting paid for these solutions we're just trying to help.

If you have the PS2 mouse and keyboard (round plug-in) instead of USB this is an easy install. however if you have USB you will need adapters to make this work, but I do not recommend it since more problems could occur. If you have the PS2 ends first shutdown both computers. remove your monitor, mouse, and keyboard from your computer and attach them to the single end of the switch. Mouse goes to Green, Keyboard to Purple. Take the other ends and connect the first group to your first computer mouse, keyboard, and monitor (same colors as above) and repeat for 2nd group of wires on 2nd computer. turn the computers on. you should get display, keyboard, and mouse for 1st computer. after both boot hit scroll lock 2 times within 2 seconds and then arrow up or down key to change between computers.
KVM switch mouse trouble
Does a mouse work if plugged directly into the laptop? Sometimes you have to change a laptop in the BIOS to allow a PS2 mouse in addition or instead of the touchpad. It may not be recognizing the KVM as a mouse. Try plugging the mouse right into the laptop and see if that works.

The things that usually go wrong with KVMs are bent connector pins (usually mouse or keyboard) or the switch itself. Inspect the mouse connector for bent or corroded pins. They are easy to bend and straighten, however, they will eventually break off if you do it often enough. If you find one that is bent the safest way to straighten it is by using a .7 diameter mechanical pencil. Remove the lead, and work the pin carefully into the pencil barrel. Once you have the pin inside the pencil gently straighten it by moving the pencil vertical.
If it?s not a bent or corroded pin there isn't a whole lot else you can do other than try to get a warranty replacement or if its expensive enough, repaired.
Problem with laptop connection
KVM's work best when you are using the same or similar type of hardware however there might be an issue with your video card interfacing with the KVM. I would switch the Video cables and see if the problem moved or disappeared. If the problem moves, then I would suspect the video card is the culprit. Since many problems can be traced to software compatibility issues, I would check to see if there is an updated driver for your video card and or your monitor first. If the problem disappears it could possible be a loose cable connection on the destop PC or the KVM itself. I would also try a different set of cables.
Mtv music generator detecting directx 7
ok... so I've now installed this on my new pc that i built... first in order to get it to install at all you must download DirectX 7.0 and right click to "--(edit compatibility settings to windows 98/Me and run as administrator)--" remember this as well be doing it a few times. once you do that install DirectX 7.0 and say yes to all. now that this is installed take the .iso file you have and burn it to a cd or DVD-r, once burned you need to go to my computer and right click on the cd/DVD drive, select open (NOT open autoplay), inside the disc menu i want you to go to 2 files... "setup" and "start" need to also have their compatibility settings changed to the above settings. now that these are set stay in the cd menu and double click "setup" this will take you through the setup procedure. after the setup procedure is finished do not view the notes, and continue back to the desktop. now from your start menu load the game and it should run
I cannot connect to the
you need more than a wireless adapter to connect to the internet......
you need a wireless network to connect to. in cafe's and pubs the owner sometimes sets up a WiFi network that their patrons can connect to, however most people have to provide their own.
to get to the internet , you will need.
A broadband connection (ADSL / Cable) this normally comes with a standard NON wifi modem
A WiFi Router (including ADSL / Cable Modem) depending on what you have already.
then to link a remote PC / Laptop to this network, A suitable wireless adapter ( like your belkin adapter)
it is a common misconception that a wireless adapter is all you need (advertising is vague)
Blue light flashing
Do a hard reset, usually there is a button on the back of the router. With power plugged in,press and hold reset button 15 sec. then without releasing button remove power plug and hold an additional 15 sec.,then plug power cord back in and hold an additional 15 sec. After that release the reset button and it should reset to default. You may need to do this a few times but it should solve your issue.
How do I Reset my Belkin wifi Extender?
Using the reset button
The location of your range extender's reset button will vary depending on its model. The reset begins once you
press and hold thereset button for
at least 10 seconds while the range extender is powered
ON. The
Status Light on the the range extender will momentarily flash and will then begin to blink. When the light becomes solid again, the reset is complete.
Using the web-based setup page
If using the physical button does not work, you can access the range extender's web-based setup page and do the reset from there.
Before you begin:
- Make sure that the wireless computer or device you're using to access the web-based setup page is connected to the same network as the range extender.
- You need to identify the IP address that your router has assigned to your range extender. Locate this by accessing your router's DHCP Client table. Once you have the range extender's assigned IP address, use it to access your range extender's web-based setup page.
- Alternatively, you can enter "http://192.168.206.1" in the web browser's Address bar if your range extender has NOT detected a DHCP server in your network.
Step 1:
In the web-based setup page of the range extender, go to
Utilities and select
Restore Factory Defaults.
QUICK TIP: You may be prompted to log in with your range extender's administrator password. If you have not set any, simply leave the field blank and click on
Submit.
Step 2:
Click on the
Restore Factory Defaults button.
Your Belkin range extender should now be restored to its factory default settings.
