CD do not just read any types of files, the disc must contain only files compatible with the unit. Check your manual.

Often times the tray and pickup lift assembly are related and there is a cam alignment. IF you pulled out with force the tray the alignment may have been upset to where the cam is not completing the lift of the Pickup and if not in the right position the laser will not be able to focus. The correct solution is at a Technicians bench where a new belt could be put in, lubrication that is required and some cleaning will be done.

it sounds as if the disc was recorded as a data disc cd instead of a audio cd play the disc on a computer to check it

It is a CD Player, It will not play DVD,s

Use blank media that have "audio" or "music" printed on it.

do you remember how your connection was before the RR tape deck? if so connect it back that same exact (when every thing was recording / playing) way as before....(you also need to purchase 4 gold tip "y" connector jacks (2 RCA female to 1 RCA male)) ... in / out jacks you just plug the cassette deck will be shared with the RR tape deck...just note you will not be able to record from cassette to RR tape or vice versa...but you will be record from all other sources...

With mine, it was the drive belts for the cd drawers, which were stretched and rigid. Open the case. Remove the 4 screws that hold down each cd drive. Push the drives out enough so you can pull the silver facing off the sliding try by pulling it up. Now you can lift out the cd drives, removing all the connectors as you go. Flip the white plastic slider underneath each drive and you can mechanically open the slide tray. This reveals the little motor and rubber pulley belt that operates the slide tray. If the belts are broken, perished, rigid or something, get something similar from your local electronics parts store (a couple of bucks each belt), and reassemble.

try plugging the HK30 out to R2R in, R2R out to RECV in...RECV (you may need 2 rca "Y" connectors) tape out back HK30 & Cass

the "Y" connector needed is (2) 2 female to 1 male (connect both HK30 & Cass deck)

First thing to do is disconnect the unit from the mains supply for 15 mins to allow for a hardware reset,and then power it up and try again. If it does not come up, then the power supply has been damaged by a power surge associated with the outage. You may have no choice but to take the unit to an authorised HK repairer. I had similar problem with both drawers. The belt from the drive motor to the drawer pulley is worn. mcmelectronics.com has two belts 42-1050, 42-045 that are close enough in size to work. Remove cover, press down on tray, slide tray forward about half way and you will see the worn belt. Total cost of fix is about $12.

Have a look at the manual for your AV receiver, you may find that you can change the digital output format between DTS mode and PCM(audio) mode. It needs to be in PCM(audio) mode for your CD recorder to be able to record digitally. If that doesn't solve it I can only suggest recording in analogue mode, i.e. taking a stereo analogue signal from your receiver to the analogue inputs of your CD recorder.

so u wann record u have to be in record mode 1st for signal to come throw and sorce vol up

According to the Harman-Kardon AVR 630 User Manual, if the 8CH mode is not available, you can try unplugging the unit from the AC wall outlet and waiting for at least three minutes. After the pause, reconnect the AC power cord and check the unit's operation. If the system still malfunctions, a system reset may clear the problem. The 8CH may not be available according to the user manual. You need to contact Harman-Kardon customer support.
