Hi, according to your mobo manual it supports SATA1/SATA2 hard drives so it's recommended to update BIOS, the latest I found it has release date 2006-06-29, you can find it in the folllowing link: Support For K8MM MSI Global

When you power on does it beep once and then seem like it boots even though you can't see the screen? Does the caps lock light on the keyboard (if you have one) toggle on and off when you press the key?

Hi carlmtclem, your not alone when it comes to hooking up the right led connector to the MSI MB. Firstly, you need to know what wire color is positive & which is negative. Most commonly the color white is ground/negative. Wire colors do vary from case to case. So look at your case led wires. Which ever color is common for each 2-pin connector, is negative. (Except the speaker wire).
All other colors are positive.
(The speaker wire color for negative is usually black & red is positive).
Your MSI board has two separate sets of pins.
JFP2 is used for the speaker only. Do not connect the power led there.


Pin one for JFP1 is shown in the manual. Pin 1 is positive & pin 3 is negitive for the HDD-LED, ECT.

CHECK THE PSU. RE-WIRE THE ELECTRICS BY THE MANUAL.

YOU HAVE SOME CONNECTION LIKE THE LED AND FACE PLATE WIRES IN THE WRONG, CONFIGURATION. THIS IS WHAT I RECOMMEND YOU TO DO FIRST. REMOVE EVERYTHING, UNPLUG ALL DEVICES, MAKE SURE THE MOTHERBOARD STAND OFF THAT ARE IN THE CASE IS NOT SHORTING OUT THE MOTHERBOARD. make sure all the hole is the motherboard line up with the stand off where you screw down the motherboard. 1.make sure the cpu and fan & memory is installed and plugged in 2.just plug in the power supply, turn on system, if boots, turn off 3. install video card 1 only,turn on, if okay, turn off 4. install dvd unit, turn on, boots ok,than turn off 5. install hhd, turn on ok, than turn off 6. plug in front panel,usb,other fan, turn on, if ok,turn off 7 install network card, turn on, if okay, turn off if you have any issues with any of the steps above than you will know which unit or item is bad, or plugged in wrong, or not compatible with your unit I KNOW IT IS ALOT OF WORK BUT IT WILL SAVE YOU ALOT OF RUNNING AROUND WITH YOUR HEAD CUT OFF IF YOU NEED MORE HELP CONTRACT ME AT ROD GANDY ON FIXYA.COM, TIPS AND WEBSITE INFORMATION
