Most likely the unit is detecting an internal problem with it's circuitry or problem with a speaker and is shutting itself off to prevent further damage. You can try disconnecting all the speakers and trying again. If it stays on, then you probably have a bad speaker or shorted wire somewhere. Connect them one at a time to find out which one. If the unit still shuts off, then you've got internal problems that require a professional Mr Fix it.

One of those things that were tested is not right. You'll need to do a process of elimination. First try connecting one local speaker and see if you actually are getting output. If not then you know the problem is with the receiver or connector.

You can also hook up something else to your multi-speaker wiring and see if it works through that wiring and speakers, ie a tv or anything that can use the same kind of connector you're using.

If you get sound out from something else then again you know it's with the reciever, either a problem with the settings or the unit itself.

Obviously you can also double check the settings too and make sure they are right.

It has to be one of those things, a connector, wiring, a setting or the unit itself.

Something blew and it wasn't a fuse if you can stil lhear the speakers. Expect the worst.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'naked'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced hands-on tech.

It is possible that the bulb for the display back lighting is out and needs replacing.

you will need to take it in for service your volume control is going out eventually if it does you will not be able to turn the sound down at all or even adjust it

According to the Harman-Kardon AVR 630 User Manual, if the 8CH mode is not available, you can try unplugging the unit from the AC wall outlet and waiting for at least three minutes. After the pause, reconnect the AC power cord and check the unit's operation. If the system still malfunctions, a system reset may clear the problem. The 8CH may not be available according to the user manual. You need to contact Harman-Kardon customer support.
