Was a solution ever found for this? I have almost the same problem, except that mine makes a horrible sound through the speakers before it shuts off. However, after an attempt or two, mine usually starts working and sounds fine (I love how this thing sounds!). It seems to happen more when I've let it sit for a week or two. When I use it regularly, it usually works fine. It's almost like it knows when I'm about to give in and replace it... because it will start working again! Maybe I just need to make an effort to use it more....

ok The reason your receiver is causing you issues is cause of a 2 time Delay fuse's on the transformer board all you have to do is to by pass them. Check the connector on the top front of the HDMI board. at the bottom of the connector it tells you the voltage of each wire the middle one is GND. should read 1.8v and 5.6v if the 5.6v line is dead. you key's in the front panel and sometimes video and audio as well.. will also stop working. all you have to do is to by pass them. it sounds like Amp burned, but not all burn parts you can see, you have to measure them by DMM. I guess at least one AMP transistor shorted. you can check SPK terminals by DMM DC, it can be easy to find different with other one

Fans are typically not serviceable. They die, they get replaced. Maybe you could look inside it and see if it has dust on it, possibly unbalancing it. Then you could assess the scope of removing it yourself. My guess is the fan may be a common variety available at Radio Shack, unless it has an internal sensor circuit for temperature or rotation speed.

Step one would be to ascertain exactly what the failure mode is - which input(s) aggravate it, what kind of connection, etc. Narrow the scope a bit.

The clicking and fickering sound like it's struggling with an intermittent source connection. When it starts flickering see if you can change the problem by wiggling the cables one at a time.

Do any of your video sources have multiple attachment types connected at the same time, say, hdmi and component, but to different assigned inputs?

I have the same problem also. Customer service told me to double check all my cable wires to make sure there is no short. Heck I just went ahead and unplugged all the speaker wires and then it was fine. I replaced all speaker wires and it worked for a couple days but its starting up again. i did the hard reset like the manual told me to do but the same problem.

Thats what customer support told me to do. They said it could be because its going into a safe mode. Mine is just shutting down no matter what sound is coming out of the tv or movie.

The very FIRST thing to check is to make certain ALL of your speakers have an IMPEDENCE of 8 OHMS. Virtually all speakers of even modest quality will include this specification on a label on the back of the speaker. You CANNOT run more than (2) TWO speakers with 4 OHMs impedence on ANY amplifier (technical discussion too long!) [NOTE: MOST HK equipment have internal overload protection systems to prevent permanent damage. However, you cannot re-set these systems yourself. Your dealer or authorized HK service center must do this.] But, before you take this beast in for service, there is one more "test": check for shorted and/or mis-connected/disconnected speaker cables/wires. Visually inspect connections at the receiver and speakers first. You might find something obvious! If everything looks okay, then disconnect ALL of the speakers; and reconnect and test them one at a time (at relatively low volume.) For example, reconnect the left front speaker, test the system; THEN add the left front, test the system,and so on, ADDING one more speaker each time - FIRST MAKING SURE EACH OF THEM HAS AN IMPEDENCE OF AT LEAST 8 OHMS! IF there is a short (or bad speaker) this will help isolate it. HK is among the best equipment money can buy, and their equipment is pretty much "bullet proof!" Hopefully one of these "fixes" will work for you. GOOD LUCK!

According to the Harman-Kardon AVR 630 User Manual, if the 8CH mode is not available, you can try unplugging the unit from the AC wall outlet and waiting for at least three minutes. After the pause, reconnect the AC power cord and check the unit's operation. If the system still malfunctions, a system reset may clear the problem. The 8CH may not be available according to the user manual. You need to contact Harman-Kardon customer support.

Check the power button first. It is Ok ? It may require replacement.

i recommend you turn off the receiver and then disconnect it from the power outlet for a few minutes

headphone is audio out for your headphones not audio in. you will need to buy mic pre amp and use output to aux or preferably tape in RCA connectors.
