Repair - How can I fix a broken lens/AF/MF?

If you have another lens, try that on the camera to determine if the damage is the lens or the camera. If the lens is damaged, just buy a new one, I would not trust the elements to focus true on a lens that has had an impact severe enough to cause this problem. As this is the standard lens that ships with most Canon Packages, you can likely find a cheap one online.

I have a Canon 1000D wth the kit EF-S 18-55mm lens supplie dwith it. The lens does not show any of the auto-focus points when I hold the button halfway down. Is this becquse of the broken cable proble

The symptoms you've described are that of the possibility of a broken ribbon cable. As the second lens works on both cameras then the strong possibility is that it is the lens at fault and not the camera. Another quick test would be to put the 'faulty' lens on manual focus and check that it will focus in that mode. To replace a ribbon cable is not too expensive. With all items of modern photography they have intricate electronic circuitry and the definitive problem will only be known once a competent repairman takes the lens apart, but I think you've worked out the problem.

If the focus works OK in manual focus and you are getting problems with auto focus you may have a broken or worn ribbon in the lens.

18-55mm lens wont auto focus

If the lens will focus on manual focus but won;t on auto focus you may have a ribbon connector failure in the lens. This ribbon continually flexis as the lens moves in and out. Over time this can break and will probably need to be replaced. All good camera repair shop should be able to do this for you and this remady is one of the cheaper repairs to photographic equipment

Ultra Wide Angle Lens

Ultra-wide lenses are going to be expensive no matter what. If you're willing to go with third-party lenses you can save some money with something like a Sigma http://www.adorama.com/SG1020EOS.html ) or a Tamron ( http://www.adorama.com/TM1024EOS.html ).

How can i charge the battery of Canon efs 18-55mm

The EF-S 18-55mm is a lens and doesn't have a battery.I assume you're referring to the battery for the camera to which the lens is attached. Open the battery compartment, remove the battery pack, and insert the pack into the supplied charger. Plug the charger into a power outlet. If you require further assistance, please reply to this post and specify the model of the camera.

You'll probably need a professional repair. Compare the cost of repair with the cost of replacement. On that lens it could be about the same.
