Hi: I think you have broken (accidentaly with the fall) the cable with several wires that connect the LC display. My real advice is that you take your camera to a store were they can give you direct support desmanteling the camera and replacing the cable or fixing it. I read of a simmilar problem - a "zoom brush", caused by a faulty part, number CL1-1006-000. Usualy it appears earlier in the cameras career though... Did you try leaving it battery-less for a bit longer than the short changes? Remove it from all possible power sources(There is a small battery inside the main battery compartment) for at least a few minutes. It should reset it in case its just a system crash. Just be aware that after the reset it will ask you to input date and time, and theres another known bug of most of the buttons freezing after inputing date/time. should be fixed by pressing the display button. Hope you manage to fix it somehow...

The card may be corrupted and unusable. Try with a new SD Card. If that doesn't work, you need Canon Service. Try formatting it in the computer, add images and see if you can see the images in the camera.

If the batteries are the same age as the camera, they are probably worn out. Try replacing them.

Try doing a factory reset.

The wrist strap has a thin loop on one end. Thread this thin section (like threading a needle) through the strap hole. (It's on the left side of the camera. There are two openings with a bar over the top of the center of them at the bottom corner of the camera body.) Start threading from the middle of the body of the camera and push the strap towards the bottom of the unit. You may need to twist the loop to narrow it and keep it tight. Once you have this narrow loop through the camera, open up the loop and slide the thick material through the center of this thin loop. Pull the wrist strap until the thin loop tightens around the bar. This is shown on page 12 of the D30 manual. Reduce the quality in the menu

Get a card reader for your computer, if it doesn't already have one. The card will then appear as another hard drive, and you can transfer photos the same way you transfer any other kind of files. Using a card reader is also likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer/

Do you mean when playing video back on the camera? If so, when the video is playing, press on the top of the wheel, the part with the triangle pointing upwards (up-arrow). You should see the small volume level indicator get an increasing number of bars and the volume will increase.
