It wont turn on

Hello

First, you must be certain that your battery pack is still good.

You have to clean all connecting point (between the camera and the batterry) with a dry clean cloth inside the battery pack compartment.

Another think to check, is the date and time battery (dime size battery located inside the battery pack compartment) to remove it, slide the battery case out and change it. Since the battery is install at the factory, it verry possible that there is no more power. At the end of your owner manual, you will find, before troubleshooting section, the way to remove it, it verry easy, no force need it.

A deffective flash card can also cause the problem. Remove also the flash card and replace it by a new one or another one that you have.

When the battery is fully charge, install it along whith the new time and date battery. Leave the camera alone for a couple of hour in order to let the board get some refresment. Try to put it on, if it not work, slide in and out the battery, couple of time, close the compartment and try again.

In many cases, the camera will start and you will have to put the time and date, if the battery (time and date) was warn out. Make sure that your screen is on. You ready to go. :)

Power failure

Check the fuses on the printed board circuits.

They are labeled with a P, H or K in the middle of them.

Check them for zero ohms to test them with a meter,.

No lcd display and no pictures

A stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open).

To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see the following for further info and a simple fix that may help:

Canon g5 lcd display problem

I had the same problem but did not have a soldering iron small enough and did feel adept at soldering microcircuitry in any case.

I unscrewed the four side screws, rotating the screen slightly to get at the ones closest to the body of the camera. Carefully removing the back I turned the camera on and noticed that by pressing on the two contacts located at the bottom left where all the circuitry is, the screen came back on full brilliance. I cut a small piece of plastic off of an old credit card approximately 1/2" X 3/4" of an inch. I then folded it in half (biting it tight and then opening it to create a bit of spring). I then carefully placed this double thick plastic over the contacts in the lower left and sandwiched the cover back on. Pressing it tight and put the screws back and voila!... works like a charm. The double thickness of the plastic and little extra pressure from folding the plastic over and opening it a bit was just enough pressure to solve the contact problem.

I expect some technicians will think this is kind of a *cheat* but from my experience with soldering - especially tiny stuff, I just did not feel comfortable with that option. Anyway hope it helps some other novices, it is a quick fix.

When I press the shutter button, I have to apply more force.

I will use a q-tip with some denatured alcohol or isopropyl alcohol (91 percent or better) over Precision Cleaner any day. You should too, unless you just feel like blowin eleven bucks!

G5 Powershot Cannon

Hi,

I posted this on another link to this site where they were having the sam eproblem so this may work for you.

OK, I think I worked it out. The shutter button was not working correctly. They wanted at least $182 to ship it off to a Canon repair facility. Give me a break! My husband spilled coffee on his personal laptop and then several weeks later spilled juice on his work laptop...I'm thinking...hello...learn any lessons yet. Anyway, he couldn't get the keyboard to work properly on his personal laptop (apparently it didn't like all the caffeine) so he bought some Precision Electronics Cleaner at Radio Shack and tried to clean it. That didn't work so we had to order another keyboard. But, that gave us the idea to try the cleaner on the shutter button. The button worked fine in the half way down focus position so we figured the spring under the button was still working but the contact when you pressed it all the way down was not activating the shutter. If we jiggled the button a bit it would take the photo so that meant the contact needed cleaning in order to take a picture with out mashing or jiggling. So short story long, I sprayed some in there and then blew some air into it to dry it out a bit quicker. The spray evaporates anyway, but that just sped up the process. It works like a charm now!!! YEAH!
Let us know if this helps. Good Luck!
:-)

Don't know how to download memory card onto computer

You can get the manual here. To download to computer you need the cord that goes from the camera to the USB port on the computer. as for the battery you usually get 2-3 years of life before you need to replace.

"LENS" word shows in lcd. non focusing

I dropped my Camera and the word Lens came up in screen. I unscrewed the lens and found that it came right off and screwed it in to the camera again tightly in the grooves it fits in to and it worked perfectly again.

Canon digital G5 LCD monitor problem

Very simple fix. Open the covering on the lcd screen and also remove covering that is between the camera and screen. There is a wire that goes from the lcd screen to the camera. It came out from all the twisting of screen when opening and closing. Carefully put that back in. Google keywords like "lcd g5 fix" etc. for more detailed description.
