The cover of the battery compartment does not lock

Hi Dear,

As described by you. Some part is snapped off. Is this part is a part of camera body or is it from the flap that opens and closes which holds the batteries.

If it is the flap, then it is possible to get it replaced. But if it is from the body, then also it is possible to get replaced the body, but in this case it will be an expensive business.

Please let us know if this suggestion was helpful in any respect.

We would love to serve you further if you require more information on it.

Have a nice day.

Sorry about my English. My powershot s1 can't

I also get a black view in my Camera (the model after yours - S2 IS). The Camera shop told me the CCD had gone but I am taking it to another Camera shop tomorrow. The manual states: "A bar of light appears on the LCD Monitor. This is a normal occurrence in devices containing CCDs and does not constitute a malfunction". I do not think this relates to your problem or mine because all I get is a black view too but no smears of light. I will try and get back to you again. Its a shame - a great camera.

Contact Canon again. Obviously there's a problem, maybe they have your wrong email address or your spam filter is blocking thier response. They usually respond within a day or two. Don't recommend doing it yourself as it is very involved, and you can damage the camera further, and the repair is free from Canon. Please check this link as it does include example videos of CCD replacement. You'll see it is rather involved. Now contact Canon again, and ask what's holding up your shipping label (1-800-OK-CANON for US or Canada).

Battery always going dead

in this camera and most of fuji AA batteries, the batteries keeps draining even with the machine off .
if the camera is not on use REMOVE the battries.
i will recommend regular recghargable batteries with at least 2700 Mah type NiMH.
you can recharge them several times and they will last almost as those lithium batteries on that model. plus they will be cheaper
