Lens not working. no phsyical damage. the display
This is probably THE most common failure among digital cameras. There's a halfway chance of fixing it yourself, described here: http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.html

If u did a reset to factory setting then u have a hard fault in the electronics of the camera, most likely the CCD circuit, Canon doesn't sell parts to the public so the only way to get the camera repaired is to send it to a Canon approved repair center, they may also offer an exchange program for a reduced cost, they send u either another camera for a flat rate or offer a discounted rate on a new version of the camera. Consult your user manual for a customer service phone number.
I am getting an message
Hello
Thank you for using FixYa for your problem
removed and reinsert the batteries with the card fitted but if is it still giving the same fault, your camera is faulty.
It should be taken to an authorized repair centre for a repair estimate. Very few digital cameras have any user-serviceable parts.
Please rate our solutions and if you still have problems please call back for more ideas to help you

The image has become a bunch of parallel lines
boiler59,
Sounds like the moisture got into the camera. Water (environmental) damage is not covered by your warranty.
I would suggest that you remove the battery right away to prevent further damage. Leave the battery door open to allow air to circulate and dry out the camera. Purchase a can of compressed air and blow it into the seams in the camera in order to dry out the inside. You can get the compressed air at Walmart. Then allow the camera to sit overnight in a warm dry environment. With a fully charged battery try using the camera again. If you are still experiencing the parallel line problem it would have to be looked at at an authorized Canon repair shop.
I knocked my powershot g6,
This either means that something is jamming the lens , or that the lens sensor has failed. This is a very , if not the most common problem with modern digital camera's.
Firstly , the odds are not with you on a DIY fix so don't be disappointed when the following steps do not work.Nevertheless , some people have fixed their camera's using the following steps.
Use these at own risk as it may further damage the camera.
Firstly try charging your batteries overnight and then try the camera again tomorrow.
Try connecting your ac adapter or usb cable.
Try holding the shutter button while switching on the camera.
Look at the lens , and if some of the lens 'circles' are misaligned or not concentric then try wiggling it.Also try moving the lens away from the side with the biggest gap (also upside down)
Try gently pushing or pulling the lens when it tries to extend but this is risky as it may cause the lens barrel to slip out of its guidance system.
Another way to do this is to place the camera lens down on a hard surface and then power it up. Be sure to use a soft cloth or something similar as to not scratch your lens or casing.
Let the lens push the camera up and down a few times and sometimes the little resistance provided by the camera is enough to get things going again.
As a last resort if you decide to replace the camera try hitting the camera near the lens with increasing force with the palm of your hand. Between each hit , try using it again.
Other than that , I would take the camera to a repair center for a evaluation to see if it would cost more to repair than to replace the camera. If it is still under warranty I would suggest you take it in before trying any of these steps and remove any off-brand batteries or accessories as some stores are really fussy about warranty repairs on camera's with non-brand accessories.
Hope the advise works. Good luck and don't hesitate to contact me if you need further assistance or information.

Stephan
G6 auto focus not working; otherwise camer works fine.
Try to get to the menus and set all to default. Some of these cameras may have a reset button or in the menu to reset all.
Lens problems can vary and can be the result of a lot of other problems which may cloud the issue, and may never be found out. Since electronics control the lens, it may be possible that some of the modules or components have changed value. In this case, it could be that it may never be able to be found out, except to use test equipment from Canon. In which case, it needs to be repaired by Canon.
Canon does have a repair department, and a toll free number. canon.com They also have a trade-in or trade-up program for those who have decided not to fix a camera, but get a refurbished one from Canon.
This program they have is great, and I have used it more than once to trade off a couple of my broken cameras. They will use them for parts on repairs of cameras they fix.
