Usually red wire is for positive connection and black for negative. Sometime negative connection is red with dotted black or lined black wire.

Amber light from the case? If that is the case, and I'm just thinking outloud here, it could be the battery or the HDD light. For as long as the PC turns on, everything should be OK.

Try pressing F8 on start-up and see if it will work in "safe mode", if so you can restore it to the previous condition, by using system restore.

Is the volume turned up or is it muted? Check for setting first before you blame a missing driver.

maybe the fan is not working, make sure you can hear the fan

there is a small hole in DVD rom... pick a long pin ... press the button of DVD ROM and push the pin into that hole... dvd will open ...

Use a Windows Vista Install Disc to reinstall, this can install Vista without all the other stuff.

Try to turn off your modem/router for 10sec and restart it and then try to connect. Hopefully it should work. If it doesn't then try to reset your router.

At what stage of the computer being on is it beeping? If it is beeping when it is starting there might be a hardware problem. If it is beeping while windows or your OS is running it might be an overheating issue or again a hardware issue.
