Just strip down each leg individually, remove, clean and lubricate sparingly the leg clamps (I use silicone bicycle chain lubricant), wipe the leg sections to remove any accumulated detritus, then re-assemble. Do NOT over tighten the leg clamps - even the aluminium ones can be brittle and snap if over tightened.

Undo the three grub screws, then unscrew the tripod head anti-clockwise.

Try removing the centre column, then clamp it securely in a vice (or vise, if you prefer), packed with wooden battens to prevent damage. Ensure that all the locks on the head are secured tightly. Then rotate the head counter-clockwise, and it should unscrew from the thread at thye top of the centre column. If it still won't shift, try spraying a little WD40 or other such lubricant at the place where the head attaches to the centre column, leave it to soak in, then try again. If you still have no luck, hie thee to thy local repair facility and humbly beg assistance from the artificer.

I've looked at the spec, and it does not appear to be changeable, unfortunately. Unless you are absolutely wedded to the idea of using that particular head, there are others in the range that can be used with either hand. are you just mounting a camera to the tripod itself? - you need to purchase a head as well - the head screws onto the top of the tripod, and then the camera fixes to the head, usually with a qr plate.

Depending upon which model you have it could be as simple as turning the center column upside down. Without more info about the tripod this is the best I've got.

It shouldn't make a difference either way. The "Fluid" is so viscous and sticky that gravity is not going to be a factor. The "fluid" is trapped between interlocking disks, so it doesn't go anywhere. Avoid extremely high tempertures. That will cause the "fluid" to run. Just make sure you keep grit and dirt out of the working parts and your Manfrotto head should work for years.

Goto this site: http://bogentripodparts.com/repairs.htm look at the first video on the right side of the page. Follow it to take the head off and then put the head back on. This should fix the problem.

The ball or tension rods could be jammed. not something i would recommend you try at home. This requires some specialized tools. Send it to these guys for repair: http://www.manfrottotripodparts.com/repairs.html reasonable prices too.

It should..., the bag is 80cm long..., the tripod is 61cm when folded & the head is approx. 10cm tall!!! Math says yes!!!

Carolyn -If you are looking for a compact light weight (CF) tripod for video...., that is going to be...., stable & durable (for use with a smaller video camera or a DSLR) & with a mid-level spreader...., I have some bad news for you. They do not exist!!!!! -You can get a number of tripods that meet some of these requirements..., but not all!!! -No fear....., it is still possible to get a tripod that is small, light, repairable and with a higher weight capacity and better durability than either of the Manfrotto tripods you mentioned..., but they will not use a mid-level spreader!!! -Questions for you...., the manfrotto #055CXB has a column that terminates with a flat plate & a 3/8-16" thread. The Manfrotto # MTV502AM tripod has a 75mm bowl mount. Do you use a video head with a flat base or with a 'bowl'? -If your head has a flat base consider looking at CF tripods from brands such as Sirui (#N2204 or #N3204)..., great value tripod from China..., or products from Gitzo or Really Right Stuff...., (superior products...., and your grandkids will be using them..., but pricey)!!!! -If your head uses a 75mm bowl mount get the Miller #1501 tripod...., stupidly strong and well supported. -Bottom line..., with light to mid weight cameras, if you go with a good quality spreaderless tripod that uses 'rotary locks' vs 'quick release' locks...., the leg mechanisms are so superior that you will find that you will get less flex than most tripods with spreaders. They will also be smaller, lighter and allow you to shoot far closer to the ground!!! Go t a shop that has a good selection of quality tripods and test for leg twist..., you will be converted!!! (note: to test this leg flex..., extend the legs & grab hold of (2) of the tubes near the top 'crown' and then try to move the legs to the left then right...., many will exibit significant flex at the joints!!!!

Hi Shirley -When you look at the center column you should see a small plastic 'nub' about 1/2" from the bottom. -When raising the column in preparation to move to the horizontal position this must be depressed or it will not 'pass through' the top casting. -Once this has occurred the column can be raised enough that it will then freely drop into the horizontal position.
