Your problem with the default case is common. Frankly, it is poorly designed. What I did (before I bought a replacement) is switch the power to the locked position when I put it in the case.

However, I have not heard if anyone has yet try to attack the Win 8 problem. Rechargeable batteries should last about 3 years. Always buy fresh batteries and see if you can get them with a higher mAh written in the specs.
