Corrupted Flash Catalyst 2948G

I have no idea if it will work on your switch - but I just looked in my IOS directory, and I have the following:

cat2948g-in-mz.120-25.W5.27.bin

I don't know where it came from, though - I tend to TFTP off the boot image on every piece of Cisco hardware I get just in case...

I just did a bit of Googling, and I found this - I guess from the filename it's newer than the version I have...

I have a problem with a cisco catalyst 2948G-L3. A

Two ways to do that are xmodem (slow) or Tftp from rommon mode. (fast)
Place the IOS image in your tftp server directory and start tftp server.
Then enter the following in the switch exactly as below as all are case sensative:
rommon 1> IP_ADDRESS=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
rommon 2> IP_SUBNET_MASK=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
rommon 3> DEFAULT_GATEWAY=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
rommon 4> TFTP_SERVER=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
rommon 5> TFTP_FILE=full file name of ios as it reads
rommon 6> TFTP_CHECKSUM=0
this one is in lower case
rommon 7> tftpdnld

If you dont have a tftp server below is a link to a free one
http://www.solarwinds.net/Tools/Free_tools/TFTP_Server/

You will need the .bin IOS image for this and not the .tar file. The .tar file contains router cluster management files that you must issue the archive tar command to load all of the files. Can do that if needed after router is back online.

P.S.: If this information was helpful, please rate this solution.

I forgot a password and i cant access a catalyst

You can only reset password this way: 1. Attach a terminal or PC with terminal emulation (for example, Hyper Terminal) to the console port of the switch. Use the following terminal settings:
  • Bits per second (baud): 9600
  • Data bits: 8
  • Parity: None
  • Stop bits: 1
  • Flow Control: Xon/Xoff
2.Unplug the power cable. 3. Hold down the mode button located on the left side of the front panel, while you reconnect the power cable to the switch 4. Release the Mode button when the SYST LED blinks amber and then turns solid green. When you release the Mode button, the SYST LED blinks green. 5. switch: flash_init 6. switch: load_helper 7. switch: dir flash: 8. switch: rename flash:config.text flash:config.old Rename config.text to config.old. In that file the password is stored. 9. switch: boot 10. Enter "n" at the prompt to abort the initial configuration dialog 11. Type en to enable 12. Switch#rename flash:config.old flash:config.text 13. Switch#copy flash:config.text system:running-config 14. Overwrite the current passwords: conf term enable secret <new pass> enable password <new pass> line vty 0 15 password <new pass> login line con 0 password <new pass> 15. write memory 16. copy run start
