Then only one more check to do before we can fault the new unit , the new unit should have jumpers at the back of it. If it is the second unit of that type installed ensure the jumper settings is set to slave and not master which is default. If it is the only unit (cd rom/dvd rw) then you have a faulty new unit. Best way to is to insert in another friends machine to double check before taking it back.
