If I try a P4-2.8GHz uP in place of the Celeron

If the board supports both chips then your problem from those symptoms may just be the ram type. Usually when you get no life at all thats a ram problem. And if the ram and cpu are good then its the ram speed and multiplier are wrong.

So what you need to do is open the user manual and find the section (should be near the front) that shows the cpu types allowed and the type/speed of ram required. There are a few differant types of p4's so you have to get the right family of p4.
It will show you the fsb speed required as well. You should be able to set it to auto and have it work if everything is right.

The other thing I should mention is that unless you are doing fairly numerically intensive programs you wouldn't really notice any differance for the majority of use when you sawp to that cpu. You will notice extra system ram 1gb or more make a big difference or a new video card with 512mb or more ram. The last makes such a huge difference as the newer cards do the video processing themselves. I just put a 1GB ATI video card in a 2.5ghz P4. It has 1gb of system ram. I was going to get a new pc but that made such a huge difference I'll use that one until it dies of old age. A new 1gb video card is about $60ish. That was a real eye opener for me and I' would highly reccomend it before most other updates.

When turning on the cpu, there are no beeps on

Hi .

There could be many things that could stop the board from turning on, Determining what is wrong is like detective work. What I do, is take everything off the board to start. Then add the minimum to start a board to see if it will start. That's one drive (cd or otherwise) the CPU, and one bank of memory. (that's not a required eliminate, but it helps avoid beep codes) Also, make sure you have your pin's set on the board absolutely correct, or that could be your problem to begin with. Also, if your going to load a ide drive, make sure you set your pin setting correctly on it. Now, you should get the power supply on, and the cpu. If those don't power up, it's then either one of the five elements. The CPU, Power supply, Ram, Drive, or the motherboard. The next step is to replace each one of the first four with another to see if you get any change. Also, on the drive, try a different cable to make sure it's not that, If no change, then I usually get another board that I can test the first four, and make sure that they work. If after that and you have tested all of the components and they all work, then it's save to say you have a Dead Board
.
Good Luck and don't forget to leave a rating.
Thanks
Mark

Where can I find a case for my Soyo P4X400 Dragon

Had good luck with Tigerdirect.com
and Buy.com

Tiger direct has a section called Computer cases where you can select. Just recently purchased the Apevia X-plore Mid-tower case for $59.99. Absolutely beautiful with the blue lights and extra fans.

Hope this helps!
Good luck!
