My D-Link DSM-310 is not working,
Did you do a factory reset? That will restore it to it original out of box settings and often solves many issues. If that does not solve the issue, you may have a dead router.

You can perform a factory reset by logging into the router and under admin settings select factory reset. You can also do it by locating a small hole on the back side of the router, and using a tip of a paperclip insert it into the hole for about 10 seconds with the power on.Usually you can login on your browser to you router and go to the management section to check for firmware updates and select that button and it will download and install the firmware. On some models, you have to go to the D-link web site and look for firmware updates for your router. Always check what you current firmware you have installed and check the version of you router modem (A, B, C etc). Then you can manually download the firmware (usually in a ZIP file), open the zip file, and then using your browser connected to the router look for Update Firmware. You will have to go to where (folder) you saved the downloaded update and select that file. It is recommended that you update using a LAN connection and not a wireless connection.

You will have to do a manual factory reset. with the power on, find a small hole usually on the back side of the router. Using a pencil of tip of a paper clip, push it into the hole for about 10 seconds. This should reset to router to factory settings and erase any password information.

How to speed up internet network
The speed of your internet is determined by your service provider and their modem. If possible, connect directly to the modem to check the speed. If you suspect you D-Link router is not allowing you to get full internet speed, first a Hard Reboot of you Router and Modem.
If that did not solve the issue, try a known working LAN 5e cable between your modem and router. After you have established it is not a cable issue, do a factory reset.
I had an issue where my speed to the internet modem was fine, but the router LAN connections only provide a faction of the internet speed. After testing cables, etc I did a factory reset and it restored full connection speed on my router LAN ports.
Disable custom error 404 page
Um, no offense, but did you even read my message before posting that reply? I'm not having connection issues. There is nothing wrong with the wifi, or with the router's connection to the internet.
My problem is that, when I try to go to a URL that does not exist, e.g. http://no.such.url, instead of seeing a 'Could not find the sever specified' page, I get redirected to http://dlinkrouter/error-404.htm.
I'm confident that this issue is cause by the router, not by the ISP, since it is redirecting to a page served by the router itself.
