Some LCD monitors have built-in speakers.
Run a 3.5 millimeter stereo-cable from the "line-in" socket on the monitor to the GREEN coloured "line-out" socket on your computer's sound-card.

Or, connect the speakers to that same GREEN "line-out" socket.

Hello, and thanks for using FixYa.

Sounds like the speakers are not properly connected to the computer, the 3.5mm wire needs to be plugged into the green port on the back of the pc.

Another good idea would be to turn off the microphone incase its causing the computer to make the noise.

Then you need to check that the sound device is working properly and the right device is selected.
You can do that from start -> control panel -> hardware and sound / sounds / sound

e29bd0d.jpg

You may have more than one option, as shown above, you can test each device by selecting it and then clicking on configure after that you need to find the right one that the speakers are connected to, you can click on configure to perform a sound test. When you hear the test you have found the right device, set it as default, and restart any program that played sound so it now directs the sound to the right output.

if you don't have any device listed then drivers are most likely not installed. and the buzzing is most likely caused by some interference. Some speakers do buzz loudly when the volume is at max.

Howdy, the speaker input on a Dell is often on the front and the back. It is usually the green one. The speakers from the HP should have no problem working on the dell; It doesn't care what brand of speaker it uses. Making the actual connection is only part of the deal, the mute could be on or volume turned all the way down.
If the speakers require external power, make sure they are plugged into a good outlet and turned on.

If you check all these things, and still have no sound, let me know and I will help figure out what to do next:)

My Dell monitor developed a thin, dark line

this occurs very commonly in all LCD monitors... this is because each and every cells in the LCD monitor are energized by the vertical and horizontal electric fields placed around the frame of the monitor... if a particular field does not gives the power to the associated cells to it, then the entire line of cells will not operate and together they looks like a single line...This is what happened in your case...

have a look at my tips for replacing the LCD screens on monitors, by clicking here....
