The additional wires are for NMEA data transfer to and from other devices and sensors like distance, speed, depth, temperature and NMEA 0183 sentences the unit will use when connected to a VHF radio or other NMEA 0183 device. If your battery voltage is down around 10 volts the unit won't power up. Also check your in line fuse. There should be a 3 amp 250 volt in line fuse on your red power line double check to be sure the fuse is intact. Of course check all connections and connectors to ensure they are all still in place.
