The speed of your boats travel only directly affects your sonars ability to read the water depth. your backtrack feature is GPS based. These is not affected by your boat being on plane. Your screen being black sounds like your sonar is losing bottom contact due to air bubbles passing under the transducer. This is a common occurrence with most boats. Add some details regarding what your seeing and we can help you get a better handle on your difficulty.

Hi Bobby This condition is nearly always caused by a power supply issue. Carefully check, clean and lube power cable connections, paying particular attention to crimp connectors, fuse holders and so on. Hope this helps you out. -Steve

Since the unit powers up, we can pretty much eliminate a power supply problem. I would start by carefully inspecting your transducer lead for kinks, crushing etc. Assuming the cable is OK, clean and lubricate (silicone spray, safe for plastics) the cable end and where the cable connects to the unit. Hi Darren Carefully inspect the socket on your unit for damage and with a multimeter check the power plug to make sure that power is actually getting to it. If they both check out OK, look at the power connections to your battery. It doesn't take much corrosion there to render your device inoperable. Lowrance has started using the same power cord on their Elite units and their HDS units. The yellow wire on the power cable is an accessory wake up wire designed to be used in conjunction with the structure scan modules for the HDS. You can simply tape this wire off during your installation ND ignore it.

In your menu under CHARTS there is a choice for either LOWRANCE or NAVIONICS. Select NAVIONICS and you should be able to see your chart maps.

It's either a software or processor malfunction. Make Lowrance fix it or make it right by you. 3 in a row all with the same issue means they have a major issue they need to resolve. Don't take no for an answer. I've seen recurrent problems through the last couple of generations of mid priced 4" & 5" systems.

Pay attention if depth readings shift during times when moving from spot to spot at higher speeds. If this is the case then you have air bubbles disrupting your sonar signal causing inaccurate readings or a loss of bottom lock for the unit. If over this weeds in shallow water, this at times creates havoc with sonar readings because of the wide variance of signal returns. check the voltage at the head unit.You should have a minimum of 11.7 volts. 12.5 to 13.5 is optimal lower power input can affect the overall performance of your unit.
