Configuring

hello!

-- who is your internet service provider
-- what is the operating system of your computer?
-- is this working fine before or is this a brand new router

you may try this and see if this help solve your problem. make sure your computer is directly connected to the router

Step 1: Shutdown the computer.
Step 2: reset the router while power on then Unplug the router’s power cable.
Step 3: Unplug the Broadband modem’s power cable and wait for 30 seconds.
Step 4: Plug in the Broadband modem’s power cable and wait for its lights to appear stable.
Step 5: Plug in the router's power cable once the modem’s lights appear stable.
Step 6: Power on the computer on and configure the router settings
Step 7: test the Internet connection.

if this still didnot work, upgrade the firmware of your router and repeat the same steps.

note:

configuring the router settings will depends who is your provider. if your isp is dsl you need to configure your ISP username (email address format) and password on the router. if your router is a cable no need to change any settings on the router. it should automatically work

if you are still having trouble configuring your device, try to call supportrix

How to config my edimax 6104k router???

1You can run the setup CD or manually configure it using the user interface of the router.
2.Since that is a router all devices that will be wired to it should automatically get an IP address from it.
3.Since they will be connected to the router you just need to enable file sharing on each computer.

Port Forwarding with BR-6104K

hope this helps
In vegas to forward a port with the zytell modem Sprint/Embarq our DSL provider you have to bridge your modem first and allow your router to pull your IP from your ISP. Then you can forward the port.
If you have DSL I would start by going to my ISP's website and look for instructions for setting up port forwarding or Bridging your modem.
Bridging your modem passes off traffic control to your router. on zytell modems you can also forward ports but bridging is much less technical
I have not run into CABLE providers cable modems having to do this
did you allow that port in your computers firewall?

Did you set up a static ip on the computer you want to forward your port for? sounds like it is required for you router
User manual: http://www.edimax.com/images/Image/manual/Wire/BR-6104K/BR-6104K_M.pdf

instruction site
http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Edimax/BR-6104K/ICUII.htm

to test the port connection you can go to http://whatsmyip.org on the left pane click on port scanner and choose custom to scan the port number you are attempting to open. you do have to have the application that will use that port running to get a result if it is a game ALT+TAB should let you out of the game without shutting it down to open a web browser this tool can save you a lot of time testing the port it will give you a open status when you have succeeded.

Slow internet

If you have 3mb, you have cable internet right? If so, the cable company cuts your speed off if you download too much over a certain period of time. My cable company confirmed this. I can download all I want from midnight til noon, but after that... They will cut your speed off if you download more than a certain amount. You can call them to find out what the amount is.

In order to connect your router you need to connect a modem in "bridge mode'( bridge mode is nothing but a configuration on the modem)..

Static config

DHCP is superior to Static IP in every conceivable way. It is not any slower. However, when you FIRST connect to a dynamic ip router, your computer and the router have to handshake a bit, which takes a few seconds.

After that, they are at the identical speed. DHCP shields you from all sorts of trouble like colliding IP addresses, DNS server, subnet masks and gateways. It is way better and more reliable to go with DHCP.

Static ip is only useful if you *need* static ip, e.g. if you want to host a server on your router and you need the computer's dns server to stay the same.

That said, if you still want to use a static ip, here's how:

Simply disable the DHCP server in the router's settings. Also, go into the router's "status" page and take note of the DNS ADDRESS(S). You will need this later.

(Please note, if you disable the dhcp server, the only way to get back into your router and re-enable it is to use static ip on the computer, or to hard reset the router)

Then, you configure each computer connected to the router to use a static IP as opposed to obtaining it automatically. To do this in windows XP:

Go to start->control panel->network connections
Right click on Local Area Connection and go to Properties
Select "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" from the listbox
Click Properties
In the general tab, tick the radio box "Use the following IP address"
Type in the ip adderss you want (e.g. 192.168.0.105)
Type in 255.255.255.0 as the subnet mask
Leave the default gateway blank
Type the ip address of the DNS server you took note of earlier into the "Preferred DNS" section at the bottom of the form.

Click ok and ok and ok until you're out of all the boxes. Your IP is now static, and cross your fingers. If you did everything correct, it will work. If not, check your settings.

Hi Omdi,

Please proceed with the following instruction as follow.

1.) Connect first the modem to your pc, if you find it is working then get the IP Address, Subnet, Gateway, Primary DNS, Alternative DNS at the network properties TCP/IP.

2.) Open your router where you can configure the static IP or manually enter the IP address, subnet, gateway, primary dns, alternative dns.

Frequent disconnection of internet service

HI rodelio,

Please give me the backbone of your committed internet rate (CIR), is it burstable bandwidth?  Actually router  is designed for Network Address Translation (NAT) which means it is better to have fast ISP that has committed internet rate (CIR). It is constantly happened for internet connectivity fluctuation cause of very low CIR specially when you are connected with more than 3 computers on the network setup.

Much better to used proxy server with linux, or Kerio Route Firewall for better performance of your browsing.

I am glad if you can extend your problem to me. I am here to help you.

Best regards,

Cant connect

Hi nometz,

Smartbro has their own wireless security which called mac address filtering. This issue was already experienced by their olders subscriber's. Since, Smartbro connectivity is only good for personal used, they used to block any unrecognized mac address encountered with their network because of network abused such as sharing of internet connection and used for business internet cafe.

If your router has mac address cloning features that's possible you can used the internet using your router.

If my solution sound helpful please don't hesitate to ask me. I am here to extend my helpful ideas to you.

Best regards,

Philip
