Most modern TV's now use the remote for All of it's functions. The buttons on the actual TV will be somewhere on the edge of the TV body. Look at the back of the TV. There should a set of 2 or 3 small push buttons on the lower left or lower right outer corner of the back panel. If they are not there slide your fingers along the bottom edge of the TV. Sometimes the buttons are 'tucked' underneath the Name badge on the bottom, middle edge of the TV.

Try a hard reset

I have a bush unit as well with same problem
You must go into menu and access the timer
My model is different but if you can access the timer open it
You should see a list of all your programmes set up to be recorded
Delete all I listed programmes and set up your recordings again
This should solve your problem
I think there must be a glitch in the timer software

Maybe the remote is busted ! A way to test the remote is to get you cell phone put it on camera and push any button on the remote and you should see a purple light on the cell phone screen, this is the infrared light. lf you don't see it it maybe busted. Get yerself a new universal remote from Walmart fer a coupla bucks..

Your description suggests the heads and pinchwheel and tape guides need cleaning, a task I am as familiar with as the reasons for needing to do it. I have owned several VCRs and had to clean them all - one rogue tape is all it takes and I have to reach for the screwdriver and methylated spirit... Clean newsprint soaked in meths and rubbing the affected parts is the best way... I once owned a VCR with a self cleaning device which for a long time was good but eventually the felt pad became so loaded with crud it was making things dirty.
