Epson PhotoPC 850Z Digital Camera - Page 2 Questions & Answers
IAS delays image processing time?
Yes. Image processing time will be 2.5x longer with the Image Authentication System installed in the camera than without. For example, an image normally processed in 4 seconds will be processed in 10 seconds with the Image Authentication System installed in the camera.
Epson Image Authentication System work with flash card?
Yes, the use of a flash memory card will not affect the system. All images taken and stored on the flash card will be IAS-enabled ("Epson protected") subject to verification in the same manner as images stored on the internal memory of the camera.
Image on screen is too dark.
Adjust the brightness of the screen using the Settings menu. Make sure the Solar Assist is disabled if you are not in bright sunlight.
Flash doesn't work
Make sure the flash is not set to the flash off setting. Check the batteries and make sure they are installed correctly. Recharge or replace the batteries if necessary. You can't use the flash in continuous shooting mode. Check to make sure your camera's flash setting is not set to use the optional external flash (see Appendix A).
Why does the camera take so long to take a picture?
You may be pressing the shutter all the way down at once. This forces the camera to focus, make exposure adjustments, and capture the image all at once. By pressing the shutter button partially to focus, then the rest of the way to capture the image, your camera can process pictures more quickly. You can turn on quick shot mode to take pictures quickly.
Wrong date and/or time
Whenever you change the batteries in your camera you need to reset the clock. You can use the LCD screen Settings menu or set the camera's clock from your computer.
I have an old Epson
It's ancient, worthless and totally obsolete. Spare parts will be impossible to obtain. Repairs will be completely uneconomical if you have to pay for them in any way (parts or labour).
In short, you have absolutely nothing to lose by trying a DIY repair, and even if it fails (highly likely) you gain valuable experience for when you next attempt such a repair.
BTW: the Epson 850z is not an SLR. The optical viewfinder does not take it's image from the same lens used to take the picture.
