How do I get the

any proprietary descaling solution should remove this.
if you then use any of the scented ironing waters available from the supermarket, the scale will not return.
I have a white powdery
The iron has white flakes coming from the steam vents.
The
white flakes can be caused by calcium or other minerals in the tap
water. To solve this problem, switch to bottled spring water. Once the
water is changed it may take several uses before your iron adjusts to
the new mixture and the issue is corrected.

Is it okay to run
I wouldn't recommend the CLR. My suggestion is to run a cycle using white vinegar, the accepted standby for removing sediment and deposits in small and major appliances. I hope this helps. If it does, please rate my solution. Good luck!
My steam iron is spitting
Run white vinegar through the iron over the sink with iron on high & steam button pressed down. This should dissolve any minerals that build up in it. Then run water through it over the sink to rinse the vinegar out.
