Installing windows without DVD

The hard disk is not recognized from USB because of SATA drivers not present on XP setup disk.

That happens because the BIOS uses a SATA controller that is not included in Windows XP install disk.

Usually you can solve the problem going to BIOS settings and changing SATA/RAID settings.Check your BIOS settings, and disable SATA RAID mode. This is done in different ways depending on the BIOS.

On HP/Compaq computers for example you press F2 on startup to enter BIOS, then disable SATA mode on bios settings.
On other makes the procedure can be slightly different.

Another way to fix the problem, is by creating your own XP setup disk with SATA drivers included, see:
Resolving "Setup did not find any hard disk drives" during Windows .

Toshiba Portege Video problem

I found the same problem on one that I bought from a guy for $100. He had been picking it up by the screen and every connector in the screen and the pivot came loose. I was able to tighten every thing back up and now I have a real nice laptop.

Wont sign on to unternet

Call your internet service provider and give them your information. They will walk you through some of it and you can give them control of your computer, if necessary, to complete the connection. You can see every thing they do. If you have personal files somewhere and you see them getting into them, unplug from the internet. I've done this before and NEVER had a problem with snoops.

How to use the toshiba pen

First, go to your control panel and find the icon for the pen. Next, calibrate the pen and set up how you want it to work. The pen is not for use in every program necessarily but with handwriting recognition activated and a charactes set entered, it will wirk. It is also good for graphics, with a bit of practice. Some units let you erase with the back of the stylus, just like a pencil eraser.

Bootable cd / dvd

one possible way around is to copy the entire cd (make a new folder named "CD COPY" or similar) to your hard drive (assuming you have enough space...about 800 Mb), then run the install from setup.exe from the hard drive, then delete the copy (to make room) when you are done.

Space Bar

Sounds like something's not making contact properly. I don't think you're going to have much success getting that key to work, at least on a permanent basis.

If your computer is under warranty, this merits a replacement keyboard. If it's not under warranty, replacement keyboards can be found online from parts providers or on eBay. Just make sure to get the right one for your model. You can usually install them yourself quite easily (typically three or four screws, five minutes or less). If you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself, it's a very basic repair and if a service provider sounds like he wants to charge you too much, he probably is. Keyboards run in the $30-70 range depending on your model, and I wouldn't pay too much more than $30 to have it installed. Forget places like the Geek Squad; a local shop can probably do it cheaper. I'd say altogether you're looking at $50-100 installed.

And as for your other question... I work servicing computers, and Toshiba machines are by far the worst products I've encountered. I don't recommend them to anyone. I haven't had much luck with other Toshiba electronics, but then again I haven't used them extensively either.

Hope this helps.

My tablet keeps freezing

There are probably not enough Toshiba tablet experts on line to assist you with your problem. Assuming that you have removed all external devices connected to the device and the battery is fully charged. Batteries themselves have a device inside them that will shut down when they overheat or if you draw to much current from them. I'll assume its not the battery. When a tablet freezes or locks up, it is either a hardware problem or a software problem. The hardware is harder to fix as it may require looking inside the device at the electronics. Software is perhaps an easier place to start to prove if it is a hardware or software problem. The software divides into 2 categories. The Apps that run on the device and the Operating System that manages the device and the user queries and the data coming & going. So, the things that you can try are: 1. Do a complete tablet reset. The buttons you use and the method will be in your manual or find the manual as a .pdf file on line. This restarts the complete reset & power up of the device. 2. Throw out all Apps that have been loaded since purchase. Then reset & test for fault. Assuming of course that you have a backup of all your purchases (Music, Apps, Movies, Books etc) once you have done all this you have completed the software side of diagnosing the problem. If still not solved.... 3. The hardware may be faulty or bad. If your not qualified yourself to take it apart then take it to a Toshiba dealer for repair or Warrantee replacement. Record it's serial number first. 5. So... like so many other people... you must have bought this machine because of price, Right? I mean, why else would you buy such an obscure brand of Tablet! Because it was cheap you will now pay the price & perhaps realize why so many people buy the most popular & well supported machines on the market. Android devices are for the Tech guys that like to fiddle & don't like Apple's control or price. So if your not in that class the the options are clear. Although expensive, Apple were the first & are the best in their class. When did Toshiba start making world class Tablets??? Go Figure!

Windows xp not start following file missing corrupt system32 confi

Restart the computer, and force it to boot from the Windows XP CD-ROM. Choose "Repair Existing Installation", and see if that fixes the problem. It might be better to remove the disk-drive, attach it as a "slave" disk-drive in some other computer, and copy all your files onto an external disk-drive.
