you can try f2, delete, f9 or ESc key to enter the BIOS setup in your laptop as soon as you start your laptop.

I think dear speed of proccessor and the speed of you DVD ROM is deferent that is, you proccessor is faster than your cd rom or vice-versa is also possible, I would rather suggest you to know the speed your old DVD ROM and get another of same speed like old one, or just try changing cable of your old DVD rom and use it.

Samsung original 256mb sdram PC133 144in sodimm 8chip 16x16 configuration. . Compatible memory for Satellite 1800-S253

That machine will on take a maximum of 512mb, so you could get 2 256mb to max out the memory. Samsung is the best for that machine, and they run around $20.00 per 256mb.

BIOS passwords on these things can be removed with one of 'em parallel port password removal device/gadgets. Or you can make your own - the schematics is available on the internet.

Once you have the gadget, or gizmo, plug it into the parallel port, turn the machine on, and the BIOS password will be gone.

Your BIOS could have been corrupted. Try bringing it to the manifacturer since they're the people who made it.

1. uninstall the wireless/wi-fi driver
2. restart the system
3. try to connect wi-fi

Insert your XP CD
Reboot
Follow the prompts

Reinstall your VGA driver from right clicking on computer>properties>device manager>display adapter>driver>uninstal. Keep ur XP CD in ur CD/DVD rom, windows will detect the hardware automatically and follow the instructions. If windows does not have a compatable driver, follow the link below for the official site of toshiba to download the driver for your laptop for free.
