Toshiba laptop will not turn on, screen is completely black

Don't pay attention to your uncle. I had the same problem. Blue ring, power lights on. Sometimes the laptop would come up after a few minutes and then would freeze. It is a power problem. The AC jack may be broken and, most likely, you need to get the MAX1632A power controller (a 40-48 pin black IC next to the AC jack) resoldered too (get someone qualified to do it, with the right soldering station for surface mount work). Turn on screen is black

If screen is totally off (black because of it's off) - screen is dead. If it's black, but you see it's working - could be hard drive or memory fail.

My laptop is working fine, but part of the screen

From your description they replaced the inverter board to fix the problem. When you had it repaired was the right side dark when you got it back? because if it was they are responsible for making right. If the problem was fixed, it still could be the inverter board or a bad back light that is going, if it is the back light most technicians will not attempt this repair because you have get in behind screen which is not meant to be taken apart. "a very tricky repair that requires solder work" They will usually opt to replace the complete LCD display to correct the problem.

Laptop starts up normally but

this is a virus/malware issue. It's best to just reinstall the OS and all the software. You may try to hunt it down with some antivirus/antispyware apps as I did, but that's only the long way arround, as the virus makes enough damage to your system that the only solution is reinstall. I wasted a couple of days trying to solve the issue and gave up on it and just reinstalled everything. Hope this helps

Won't charge

This is a common problem for laptops. The power adapter on the motherboard is damaged or loose from the motherboard. This may be able to be repaired by a tech. Be advised though, that you may end up having to replace the motherboard as there may be additional damage to the charging circuit on the motherboard. I would also recommend replacing the power supply if you have this repaired as the power supply plug can also become damaged from the heat that is generated by the bad connection.
