Memory upgrade
The M45-S169 only has one available memory slot.
(I'm confused about your post that states "M45-S265" in the head line).
- Configured with 512MB DDR SDRAM (both memory slots may be occupied)
- 512MB(min)/2048MB (max), 256MB on-board memory with 1 available memory slot for 256MB, 512MB, or 1024MB PC2700 DDR 333MHz SDRAM 2.5V SODIMM memory modules
You can find the complete specifications
here.

Dropped my laptop and now
Probably something got knocked loose during the fall. As a first step, remove and reinsert the hard drive and memory module(s). Those seem to be the most common things to come loose. If that doesn't work, you will need to get under the covers of the laptop and reseat all of the cards and connectors.
Here is a link that shows you disassemble the M45.

Hope this helps and gets you backup and running. Have a super day!

Check the harddrive is there in bios.
You can get into bios by keepnig the escape key pressed while it it booting, once in bios check that the harddrive is beiing detected.
Hard drive may need formatting if it is not formatted already.

Freezing/Power Problem
I had the same problem since last week. I suspected the RAM (the add-on 1GB RAM which I installed when I bought my Portege 2 years ago). I removed the addon RAM, could be easily done from the bottom side. I appears to be alright. I am still testing. However, please let me know if you have an addon RAM? If yes, could you please remove and try? Let me know the result by mailing to
[email protected].

Toshiba Laptop Malfunction (2)
This sounds like 2 things, it could be a video driver conflict or there's a startup program that might be causing the problem. To check which is which, try restarting the computer > press F8 when you see the toshiba screen until you get the Advanced Boot Options.. then choose Enable VGA Mode (I'm assuming your using WindowsXP). If that works and you get to the desktop screen with no problems, try removing the display driver & replace it with a compatible one (usually on the cd that came with the laptop). If that doesn't work, try choosing Safe Mode and run msconfig (start > run > msconfig) and disable all services & startup programs (don't forget to check "hide all microsoft services"). then restart the computer. If this doesn't work and continually goes to a loop, do you see a bluescreen with error messages on it? Like Error 0x00000003 or 0x0000000E etc.? or a memory dump error? That could be a hardware problem already and it may require service.
Hope this helps.

Wireless internet connection
be sure to turn on the wireless switch on your laptop. press Fn and F8 to turn on wifi. try to reconnect to the network. if it doesn't work, uninstall/reinstall the device driver for your toshiba laptop. if you know how to reconfigure the router, you need to change the SSID and change the passphrase. (if this is a secured network) if you don't know how to reconfigure the router, please contact your router manufacturer.
i hope this helps.

Hard drive replacement
repacing w the same type and capacity is fine or you can upgrade to a better one, with a different capacity, ensure first with the manufacturer sometimes there is a limit as far as capacity is concern, i believed yours is IDE connection, rpm is not an issue only the capacity.
sometimes it will not be recognize by your system if it does not support higher capacity, call the manufacturer for complete update, you might want to update the bios too

first you have to know it's not the 512 kb it is an 512 MB. If it is the laptop there may be the two slots in the corner of the slot you see the knob press it slidely the knob on the both side after remove as the same process to put new ram on the slot but before that see please check if your computer or the laptop is supports the 2GB ram . you can see the manual of the laptop or search the web or ask the shop where you buy the laptop. these are steps for ram. try it , and if problem comes again ,please inform to fixya.com

Battery replacement
What is it excactly you want out of your battery, three hours is outstandind battery time. Most last little more than half that. You're not going to find any that will last much if any longer, especially from an after market manufacturer.
