Kodak EasyShare LS443 Digital Camera - Page 3 Questions & Answers
Camera Problem
I have been reading a lot of posts from people with similar problems. Apparently, when people try to fix this camera, they are told that the parts are no longer carried and are told to buy or upgrade to a new camera. I am interested in hearing more experiences from people on this camera. I work for a consumer rights law firm and we are investigating this. You can contact me at

Thanks,
Abby

LS443 camera
I have heard of people who have just whacked theirs against their hand a few times and it starts working again, nothing to lose really, if it is really broken and this doesnt work, repairs are more than a new camera
Lcd display is black
Forget fixing this camera unless your willing to pay big bucks, I have the same problem, checked it with a great camera repair man min. cost to repair is $175.00, this is a very big problem with the Kodak LS443, these camera's should have been recalled. Kodak is aware of this problem but will not stand behind there product. There is a chip that has gone bad problem is the chip is just a small part of the camera that has to be replaced, these camera's are not easily repairable. I loved this camera, but I will never buy another Kodak again. Don't send it to Kodak they will charge you more then a local camera shop.
Problem with LS743
Sorry but there not lying to you, these LS443 kodak camera's are very expensive to repair everything is hooked together, one part goes bad and you have to replace just about half the camera. For a camera thats suppose to be worth $500.00 it is a real lemon as far as Kodak camera's go. I have a old Kodak DX 3700 3.1 and it works great bought it on ebay for $20.00 and had it for 3 years and have used it alot, my point is the LS 443 has many more features but it was not made to last, Kodak screwed up they are aware of all the problems with this camera but will not stand behind the product
Picture problem
Yes, there are over 300 customers in china have this problem, they have accuse kodak in Shanghai China.
You can view this report http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/china/2007-08/16/content_6029775.htm
Something covering lens from inside?
You could also have a battery problem.
If the battery is weak, it may not extend the lens.
But other things could appear to work.
It takes a lot of power to extend the lens.
Your docking station recharges the batteries on that camera.
There has been one report (on this forum) of a Kodak camera having batteries that would not charge due to a bent/missing pin in the connector that mates with the docking station.
.........
Some people have reported that a small slap on the side of a camera can jar loose a stuck lens.
But don't get slap happy and damage the camera.
.........
Some people have reported that they could grasp the lens and pull gently when powering-on a camera to help it extend.
Again, don't over-do it.
..........
Disassembling a camera would be a last resort and likely to cause more damage.
Error message E45, Lens stuck in the out position.
It would cost more than a new, better camera would cost.
I don't say that to be anything but helpful. This camera model is 5 years old, a lifetime in digital camera terms. It would take any experienced tech 3 or 4 hours to take care of this problem and at a bill rate of $60 - $80 an hour you are looking at something upwards or $200 to fix a camera that is probably worth less than $100.
I use Nikon cameras myself (partly because I have a multi thousand dollar investment in lenses, but also because I prefer their ergonomics), but usually recommend Canon in the low end point and shoot category. They have many, many good models that you can get for less than $200. I suggest you use a site like dpreview.com to narrow down the choices and then buy from a reputable dealer like bhphotovideo.com, adorama.com or the like.
I can help you choose a camera, or make detailed suggestions if you tell me what kind of camera you want (easiest vs more capable, size, what you want to do with it...)
Good luck.

i have the same camera Kodak LS443. Min. cost to repair starts at $175.00 there is a chip that is faulty. Problem is you cannot just replace the chip other parts are involved. Kodak is aware of this problem but they will not recall this camera, if you send it to them for repair it will cost you much much more. On Ebay last week there were alot of these LS443 cameras guess what !! all were been sold for parts they almost all had the same problem no pic in the viewer just black, I really loved this camera but will never buy a kodak again, there very hard to repair. sometimes not even repairable.
Screen is black
I bought a few of these camera's and stripped them, the black screen syndrome is caused by the shutter not the ccd.
The ribbon cable feeding the shutter breaks after so many movements of the Len's and is obviousely a manufacturing fault as the cable is not flexable.
There doe's not seem to be an easy fix but if i find one i will let you know.
Regarding Error #45
Well Heero if you are the tech guy you say you are- and Kodak arn't helping you- this suggests a mainboard failure and the camera is not going to get repaired.
Kodak ls443
#45 is a lens error code, very common problem with ls443, not much you can do, you will need to replace the whole lens assembly
Camera stopped working
If Kodak are not come up with ansers - who can?
New camera perhaps is the answer -not a Kodak this time
