You need two cameras to make one good one !!!GOOD LUCKRussell

Remove the batteries and clean the battery contacts inside the camera
with a soft cloth (a heavy buildup on the contacts may require cleaning
with a fine wire brush, steel wool, or sandpaper). Remove any residue
that the cleaning leaves in the camera, and then reinstall the
batteries. This clears most power-on problems, but if yours persists,
check the Kodak troubleshooting guide at:

How to realign kodak dx6490
Hello Teacher, Since we have nothing to lose but a DX6490 try to gently push the lens housing in with the palm of your hand until it is fully seated, then gently pull the lens assembly out to it's extended position, now gently push it back in. Install battery and turn it on to see what happens. If this works, great, if it does not work list the camera on E-Bay for parts and I may buy it !!!Best Regards, Russell

Kodak DX6490 camera doesn't turn on. The light
Hello Cynthia, Well there can be several reasons for this, First thing is to try a known good charged battery as these have a problem as they age not having enough power to boot the camera which requires quite a bit of power to start because of turning on the display, operating the lens motor, charging the flash, etc. This would be my first check before you go any further.Best Regards, Russell

Hello, Well I work on these DX6490 Kodaks as a hobby, I guess I am a sucker for punishment !!!! These guys all have problems with the small joystick you are referring to. It was just not designed or built for the long haul. As they age the problems begin to show. Not a cheap repair. Time to think about a newer camera, sell yours on E-Bay for parts, It will probably sell if the camera is in good condition.Best Regards, Russell
Firmware Update Could my Kodak DX6490 camera a
Hello Joan, There are no diagnostic utilities available to the consumer for the DX6490. It sounds like the drive unit for the lens has worn over time. Not a cheap repair, Sorry.Best Regards, Russell
Well my friend dropped the camrea and it wont turn
Hello Kerry, Sounds like your friend owes you a camera. If your Dx6490 took a good hit you can bet there is internal damage. This will be a very costly repair. The current selling price for a nice used one will be cheaper than fixing the one you have.Believe me, I work on these as a hobby now.Best Regards, Russell
Can't turn on the DX6490. I have 2 fully charged
Hello, If the batteries you have are charging up with no problems then it sounds as if the rotary switch has gone 10 - 7. This model Kodak suffers from a great deal of switch problems. Cheap China plastic. There are thousands of owners with these cameras having switch problems as the cameras age. Only cure is to replace the camera. It is not cost effective to repair.Best Regards, Russell
