try taking the batteries out and leaving it for 10 mins. then put fresh batteries in and hold the button for say 10 secs to start it. I think the sw sometimes gets in a muddle at the 2 GB boundary in the file system.

I had the same problem... I simply fixed it with changing into other batteries... they were not out of power, but apparently the recorder like the new batteries better??
