All I can say is the fall broke a part loose inside, take it part and look to see what that is or just live with it if it works ok.

It is possible that the disk space is not partitioned or the drive has crashed there by making the partition unreadable. Formatting the disc should resolve this problem. Just connect it to your computer and use this tool to format it.

Install it, launch the software, click on your external hard drive, click on the raw space on the drive, and click create partition. Choose the file system NTFS and click save changes. It will format it and you should be able to use your drive again. If you have any further questions please let me know, before you give me a bad rating, so that I can help you fix it.

Please explain what you mean? When you plug in the drive it recognizes the drive but the size is showing to be extremely small?

1. Disconnect all cables from the device.
2. Press and hold the "reset" button (located on the rear panel) for about 10 seconds.
3. Wait for the device to restart and initialize. This may take several minutes.
4. Reconnect the cables to the device and try accessing it again.

Note: It's recommended to backup all data stored on the device before performing a factory reset, as all data will be lost during the reset process.

Depending on your OS, use your disc utility and see if it has been initialised or not. If not initialise it and then you can format and use it as normal.

Check the data recovery programme used for an idea or start again now you have your data back by re initialising and formatting the drive as a new one.

U should test for power at the connector that goes into the lacie with a voltmeter to make sure power supply and its wire are OK. If no voltmeter then use a automobile brake or turn signal bulb to see if it has power.

Just an idea. When you set pass words or any important information write all information in a note book and keep it in a drawer someplace where you will not lose it. When things change write the new ones down and cross out the old ones. I save a lot of head aches that way.

Pushing in the paperclip should unlock it, but if still jammed, may have to wreck drive by pulling off front of drive drawer thing. Maybe try putty knife to push cd down some of that's holding it from opening.

Replace perhaps, but repair is most difficult. The electronics are miniature and it takes special tools to do repairs.

Two ways this can go. If you are talking about the entire hard drive pulling it out and plugging the whole drive into another pc. Then you're fine If you are talking about disassembling the hard drive and moving the disks inside. This is not something you can do. This is what you will need. 1) a certified clean room surgical grade 2) tape 3) A matching drive/ hd board down to revision number 4) presision screw tools. 5) patience. Or you will need to contact a professional data recover company.

Hi please explain more information about your problem. before any further assistance try to check it on other computers and see if its working or not if yes then take a full backup quickly, if not then: try replace the USB/SATA/PATA cable and check if it is working or not. if yes then take a full backup quickly, if not then: 1-this is an external drive: 1-1: it use as a normal external HDD for backing up data/movie/music/pics/etc.: option number 1:try to fix its partition clusters/sectors with some software like easeus partition recovery or ... option number 2:try to format it and then recover its data via recovery applications like easeus or "get data ntfs back" or... note: in all scenarios you may lost some files or content 1-2 it is used for speed up your computer or has the MBR or EFI boot partition and has an OS installed on it: try to fix its partition clusters/sectors with some softwares like easeus partition recovery or ... note: in all scenarios you may lost some files or content 2-this is an internal drive: 1-change the SATA/PATA cable 2-check its sectors or clusters via software (windows check disk or windows defragment option) for bad sectors or cluster issues 3-try to fix its partition clusters/sectors with some software like easeus partition recovery or ... if none of my solution works or software found some bad sectors that could not resolve it then or even you couldn't format the drive then: maybe it has a hardware fault and there is not much you can do about it by yourself and you should go for warranty service or replacement or asking some expert companies for recovering your data via some special hardware that it may cost you too much. best regards

How old is the drive and has your set-up always behaved exactly the same way or what's different now, please? Does this happen only with Word files or what? Is that LaCie's own Disk Utilities, or what Mac OS are you using which pluralizes that?

you can try a new lead or power supply. If it is internal just buy another monitor as not a DIY repair

try using "USB SHOW" install the software.
