Where is the wps button on a linksys router

Depends on the on router. The button should have a picture of an antenna on it or say WPS. Pres it and the light will flash then press the wps feature button on the device you are connecting. If this is a Linksys EX0000 model it should be on front and center on the top of the router.

If you have the CD that comes with the adapter then you can try uninstall Linksys software and install only the drivers of the adapter.Remove the Linksys Adapter and un-install the Linksys Software from Programs menu. To re-install the Drivers insert the Linksys Setup CD into your CD-ROM drive. When the Welcome screen appears click Exit. Connect your USB adapter to the computer. When the Found new Hardware Wizard window appears, click Install the software automatically (Recommended) then click Next. Click Finish when the installation is complete.Try to connect to the wireless network again. See if that works. You can also download the latest drivers from Linksys website on any other computer. Save it on a Flash drive and transfer the drivers on your computer.

I had a dell netbook

This is caused by setting the encryption to WPA-RADIUS instead of
WPA-PSK on the client radio. Both the router and the client are
trying to find a RADIUS server with which to authenticate your system.
Switch the encryption to WPA-PSK (pre-shared key) on both ends and it
will work.

You may have to settle for WEP passcode or none at all. The older technology may not understand any type of encryption. An alternative means of protection for you may be something called mac filtering. You will have to do the research. Good luck.

How can I get the wireless adapter to work with my

If the router is too new it may not be backwards compatible with wireless b standards. Otherwise check the router settings for something like "wireless b mode" adding older technology will slow down all devices on the wireless network. It may be easier to find a used wireless g pcmcia card online.

I have an old laptop

Most of the newer routers use a newer type of encryption (WPA or WPA2) which is not supported by older 802.11b hardware.

Either set the Linksys router to use WEP encryption, or get a newer 802.11g card for the old laptop which can use WPA or WPA2 encryption.

Older versions of Windows XP also need to be upgraded to Service Pack 3 or apply this patch:

I have an older computer

Yes you can definitely download the driver from a working computer and save it to a flash drive and then transfer to the computer where you want to install the adapter.

You can download the driver for it from the manufacturers web site and once done you can continue with the installation of it.
