For that press RESET button of your router for 10 seconds then it will automatic restart and reset. then connect router to computer lan port with lan cable. then you can access it with default ip addresshttp;//192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.1.2 Type user as 'admin" and password as "admin" or "1234" or "password" or blank then you can see configuration page of router. Then click on wireless->security then note down the password.It's your password to connect wireless.

You need to login to the router homepage by typing: 192.168.1.1 into any internet browser. When it asks for a username and password look at the bottom of the router. Follow the onscreen instructions from there.

Should be on the White sticker on the bottom. If you need to login to the router to change settings You need to access the router setup page by typing 192.168.1.1 on the address bar of a computer that is working with the router , then it will be asking you for a username and password , just leave the username blank and password is admin.
If you need to connect wirelessly to the router but there is a password you don't now you need to hard reset it: unplug it and hold the button on the back that says reset for 30 secs and plug it back in then connect. you must use a cord connection first to login to turn on wireless.

Try resetting the Linksys back to the default settings - Press and hold the pinhole RESET button at the back of therouter with the power ON for 20 secs. then release the RESET button.
To connect to your wireless router, the router's wireless settings needs to beconfigured with the SSID, encryption etc. and also the wireless cards in allthe laptops/computers needs to be configured with these router's wirelesssettings. Then the laptops/desktop computers can communicate with your wirelessrouter.
Connect a LAN cable from the Linksys to the LAN port on your computer.
Open a browser and enter the Linksys configuration URL
http://192.168.1.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = admin
You can protect your router by changing the default PW (write it down and putit in a safe place)
Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2encryption.
Apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer.

you can't put just anything into the password field, depending on if the password is set to HEX or ACII you have a certain amount of letters or numbers that you must enter, and if it is hex you are limited to 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0 A B C D E F.

64bit key is around 5 ACII (normal letters) Or 10 Hex digits
128bit key is around 13 ACII or 26 Hex digits

2 hex digits = 1 ACII letter.

And so on. Generate a high security key for the lenght that you want from

First, your router is old, go pickup a new one that supports the G standard, don't worry it will fall back to B standard or better yet get an N standard router. To setup wireless security directly connect a pc via cat5 data cable to one of the switch ports on the router (not the wan) and login to the web innerface, click the wireless tab, now look for the security or encrypted options. Most routers support WPA-2 encryption where you enter a phrase of 2 or 3 words if your router only supports web encryption go buy a new router. Save it, then go to your pc, disconnect, remove the wifi ssid from your managed wireless list refresh and search for the ssid of your wireless signal (name), now connect and the router should challenge you for your WPA pass phrase you setup in the router. Now your wifi ssid is secure and all connections will require the passphrase.

Hi
No,those aren't options for you,unfortunately you're stuck with 802.11b.It's the narrowest,or slowest,broadband wireless connection that you can get at 11Mbps. The 11g can at times attain 54Mbps and 11n connections up to 300Mbps.
As technology keeps getting faster and cheaper,the more recent cards and routers are showing up at places like overstock.com for discount prices.
Don't get me wrong,what you have will work,but I don't know if you'll be satisfied with your speed.
Remember,if you go looking for replacements,make sure your system meets,or better yet exceeds the min. requirements,and that your Op. System will support the hardware.

As your router and laptop can see each other it is not a connection issue and you’re your SSID is correct. More than likely that WEP/WPA or pass phrase are the same on both router and all wireless devices.

check if the type of protocol dhcp or ppoe
check that the ip not the same with cable modems

192.168.1.1 if same change it on lan settings on router
to 192.168.2.1

save settings and power cycle linksys router

You can secure your wireless network wit WEP or WAP code.
For that Connect your router to computer with ethernet cable then you can access it with following default link.
http://192.168.0.1
or
http://192.168.1.1
If you are not able to access it with above ip then check your computers ip address gateway ip is your router ip try with it.
Then it ask for user name and password.
Type user as "admin" and password as "admin" or "password" or "1234" blank.
Then you can see configuration page of router.
If you are not able to access router then RESET it .You can RESET it with reset button it is in back side of router press it for 10 seconds then all settings goes to defaults then you can access it with above link.
Click on wireless settings then enable WEP Security then add WEP code .It is your password to connect wi fi.Then save settings and restart router.
Then you can connect your wi fi network with that code.
