If you are using windows 7, a lot of older scanners are not recognised, the solution to this is a program called VueScan available from loads of places, just use google to find it. It will work with most scanners and will have a driver that saves you buying a new scanner, I have used it with 10 year old scanners and not had a problem with win 7 32 or 64bit os

If the UMAX website doesn't have Windows 7 drivers for this scanner you may be out of luck. Some of the older devices are not supported by Win 7.

There is usually what looks like a large screw head either under the top cover that you lift to insert an original onto the glass, or somewhere in that area. It will have two symbols, a closed lock and an open lock, or better yet, the words "lock" and "unlock." This keeps the carriage from bouncing around while the scanner is being moved. Use a quarter or a screwdriver to rotate the screw head to the unlock position. Unless you are traveling with the scanner, leave it unlocked.

I'm afraid there are no drivers running under Windows Seven for this unit.
If you have the W XP install disc , you could install a virtual version of W XP on your HDD ( http://downloads.vmware.com/d/info/desktop_downloads/vmware_player/3_0 )
You could also partition your HDD ( http://www.partitionwizard.com/free-partition-manager.html ) and install W XP on the new one .
Otherwise , you will have to buy a new scanner .

I am afraid the answer is NO. This is a legacy scanner and there is no economic reason for anyone to write a driver for it. Buy a new scanner. They come with drivers for OS X.

The motor is cought thinking its locked but its not you will need to free the motor where its stuck if that dont help you then you need to get a hold of Umax and get another motor for it..
