I get all green lights on both the dsl modem and the linksys router, but cannot connect to the internet.
One thing that isn't mentioned anywhere is the modem has to be in bridge mode. I was told this by a Linksys tech after doing all that was documented in the references article. I contacted my internet provider and they told me how to set the modem to bridge mode. This corrected the PPPoE error.

Hello,
I am trying to set up port forwarding for Transmission on my Macbook. The router we have is Linksys Wireless-G 2.4 GHz 54 Mbps. Model WRT54G.
Our modem is Motorola SB5101 SURFboard Cable Modem.
I have tried to read FAQ's and checked out portforwarding.com and I can't seem to get this to work. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
This web page has a wonderful graphic step by step to use port forward for your linksys router:

Hope this helps.

Geek Squad suggested I let them "lock" my wireless router for safety (150.00). I have a Linksys wireless-g 2.4 ghz router. I've had it a while and no longer have the box or manual, so I don't know my codes, although there are ID numbers on the bottom. Can I do this myself?
Yes. Your router ip is likely 192.168.1.1 put that into your web browser. You'll get a login screen. type admin then password in the two boxes. That should get you into the router unless the user id and password have been changed. If you goto the linksys site and goto downloads you can enter your model and version number and download the manual.

When I try to setup my wireless network I am asked the pin number for the router. How can I find this pin number I have the same pin number problem with my computer using 64 bit Vista to set up a WPA protected wireless LAN. My other computers using XP don't ask for a pin number. Also I've had this router since late 06 and have never been asked for a pin number before; and there is no lable showing a pin number on my router.
I have had this problem. Go to the website and get the free phone number and ring them. They were able to help me (twice as I forgot after the first time).

Hi my name is Thomas Niemeier,
I'm using a Windows XP system and I'm trying to connect to my new wireless HP Office Jet 6500. I am getting this error message during installation, "Unable to communicate with your printer at this time. This may be caused by a firewall. If you are using firewall software, verify UDP port 427 is unblocked from your printer at 192.168.1.103 to your PC." I am not currently running the windows firewall, so I guess I wont use this to open the port? I could only assume that the only way is to unblock the port on my linksys router (model WRT54G V8). Specific help and instructions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much,
Thomas Niemeier
Since both your printer and your desktop are on the LAN side of your router, the hardware firewall isn't really a concern here. I would check the following:
-Make sure the printer is actually connected to the network. If you are having wireless difficulties, and have a wired ethernet port on the printer, try plugging it in rather than going wireless. (If this fixes the problem, you can then concentrate on it being a wireless connectivity issue rather than a firewall issue.)
-If possible, try printing from a different PC on the network. Does it work with that PC? If so, then reinstall the printer on the problem PC, perhaps even clearing out and reinstalling the drivers.
-You may also want to manually assign an IP address to the printer. This address must be within the same "range" as the rest of the network. Since your router is probably assigned 192.168.1.1, and DHCP auto-assigns your PC 192.168.1.100, make the printer 192.168.1.20. This way, the printer has the same address every time the PC goes looking for it.
-Make sure you don't have a second firewall on the affected PC. Zone Alarm, Norton Internet Security and many other "all in one" security packages sometimes throw a firewall in there without your knowledge. See if you can "ping" your PC from another computer on the network, and can you "ping" the printer from the problem PC?
Hope this helps!

i need installation software for a linksys WRT54G2 V1 Router my friend gave me for my birthday but he didn't have the CD
router do not normally need installation software..
you can access their admin software by putting in the ip address into your browser...
if you are running xp go to start > run and type in "cmd"..
when you get the black DOS screen, type in "ipconfig" and look at the results for the ip address of your "Default Gateway"..
go back and type this into your web browser to access the router...
for linksys the default password is admin, leave the username blank

is windows 7 compatible with WRT54G router?
Yes, but you can not use your passphrase to attach to WEP. You will need to use one of the generated keys. It's the number onder your passphrase in the router configuration. It'll look like "accde45fff296" or something like that.

HOW DO I CHANGE LANGUAGE FOR MY LINKSYS WIRELESS ROUTER WRT54G FROM CHINES TO ENGLISH
What is the Ip address of the router ?
The default IP address of Linksys router is 192.168.1.1.
To change the Language on the Linksys router, you will need the CD of the router.
Open the internet browser on your computer and in the address bar type " http://192.168.1.1/language.htm "
Hit enter and you will get the option to select the language from the Cd. select English and save the settings. it will change the language.

does it mean the wireless part of the router is bad? the ethernet is working fine, just the wireless is out
My first instinct is to do a hard reset of the device, if you haven't done this yet. To do this you need to press and hold the reset button on the back of your device for 10 seconds. This will completely reset your device back to factory. Of course, you will loose all security settings, and these will need to be re-entered into the router.
