Whining noise Computer Speakers comes and goes
This is more likely a problem with your sound card than the speakers themselves. Next time it happens, try plugging in some headphones or other speakers into the same port on the computer. Most computer hardware is not designed for good ground isolation and digital artifacts can come through. The other likely answer is a problem with the cables. Try wiggling the cables, especially near either end, and see if you can find a spot that makes the sound come and go. If there's a break in ground at a connector, or a short to ground in the cable, that can also cause unpleasant distortion in the speakers.
