ERROR E2
Here is a picture of the aforementioned broken gear, with a replacement gear visible for comparison:
From a different angle:
The printer repairman said that the plastic gear found in this and similar models can fail after as early as a few months of use. Best of luck!
CODE U2
A U2 is related to a memory failure. May be a bad memory chip or main board. BUT, before we get drastic and move in that direction there are a couple of other things that I have seen cause that.
So, first I have seen the chip on the back of the drum cartridge cause that problem. You can try removing the drum cartridge and powering on the machine without that installed. See if it just comes up with a J2 code then. Or even a CH code. If the code changes you may simply have a failed drum cartridge.
Sometimes memory corruption can occur and you can clear it using this procedure..
Performing a Fault Reset 14 will reset your WorkCentre and will help to clear error codes.
- Find the pink Clear button on the Control Panel of the WorkCentre.
- Find the button below the word Auto.
- Press these buttons in the following sequence: [Clear], [Auto], [Clear], [Auto]
NOTE:
All of the lights on the Control Panel should go out and the LED
Display should go blank. If the lights do not go out, then repeat step
3 until they do. It may be necessary to increase or decrease the pace
of the [Clear], [Auto], [Clear], [Auto] sequence.
- Press the [10's] key one time and the [1's] key four times to enter '14' in the LED Display, as if you were to make 14 copies.
- Press the green [Start] button.
- Press the pink [Clear] button two times.
- The WorkCentre should now warm up and come to ready.
- If the above steps do not clear the error code, repeat steps 3 to 6 a second time.
New Drum
You have to remove the front cover of the drum, there is a flag that has dropped into the down position on a set of gears. You need to remove the green cover on the front of the drum and move that flag up and to the left. Then put the cover back on and let it start up. That flag actuates a switch once then stays in the down position.
Those fall into the down position easily in transport/.
XEROX WORKCENTER XD100 NOISE
Most likely the fuser gear is worn. The noise is prominant in the right side toward the back I am assuming.
You can replace the heat roll drive gear itself, but honestly I would recommend replacing the entire fuser assembly. It is probably very very tight and would wear another gear out quickly.
You want to get that replaced before the drive gear on the main motor assembly wears out. It would not rewuire replacing that entire main drive assembly, But it is a real difficult part to replace.
Go onto google and do a search for The Parts Drop. It will be the first item to come up. CLick it on and call and talk to Britt.
He will have what you need for a reasonable price.
if you go that route and need instructions to replace that part. let me know. Its not very difficult.
J1 code Xd100
a J1 means that you are low on toner, try another toner cartridge.
XD100 Workcenter Copy quality
If its is a fine line. Looking like a pencil line. See if it is there when you run it off the glass or through the document feeder. If it is only there when it is run throught the document feeder, the small strip of glass under teh document feeder had some contamination on it.
You may have something on the optics. Mirror or lamp carriages. You would want to clean those. The Drum cartridge could be bad. Take the drum out and see if it's on the drum.
The transfer wire on the lower part of the right hand door, just above the white rollers and may need cleaned.
Last and the least likely would be the fuser roller. That is the heated area just before exit area of the machine, You can look in there with a flash light and see if any of that roller is worn.
In order, I would think . 1, Drum, 2 Optiscs, 3. Fuser,4 Transfer corotron wire on the right door.
Xerox XD 130 L4 code
That is an issue with the main drive motor.
There is a small plastic gear on the shaft of that motor that cracks and even though the motor spins, it does not drive anything.
Often you have a whirring sound when you power on the machine.
L4:The Main PWB sensed a Main Drive Motor MOT1 problem.
