Xerox WorkCentre M20i All-In-One Laser Printer - Page 9 Questions & Answers
Scanner locked
Look on the bottom side of the scanner.
There is one and only one green item on the bottom of the scanner. That is the scanner latch.
Turn the machine off, push the latch in toward the back of the machine, then pull it out toward ourself until you hear and feel it snap.
That should take care of your problem.

When printing text on every tenth or so Thank You
It really sounds like the teflon coating on the heat roller is worn and contaminated.
On an M20 you will have to replace the fuser itself.
Google a business called " the parts drop" Give Britt a call and he should have what you need.
The M20 uses a unique hearing element. So the fuser itself will have to be replaced.
The pages you are printing are tacking to the surface of the heat roller. Not uncommon .
I wasn't sure of the model when I asked the
No, That would be different.
I would UNPLUG the machine and remove the glass. Then slide the lamp carriage back and forth to see what it is binding on. Could just be a cover or hitting a sensor in the scan path.
On that machine there is a home position sensor that the lamp will often catch on. You would feel it hit the bracket when you slide the lamp back to the start position. It would hit about an inch or 2 before it locates all the way back to the left. If thats it, you have to carefully bend either the sensor bracket or the metal flag onthe lamp carriage itself to hit the sensor centered.
Cannot remove "scanner locked"
What you need to do is look in the area where your copied pages come out, Between the paper tray and the bottom of the scanner.
On the underside of the scanner you will see a green latch, It is the only green item on the underside of the scanner. About 2 inches long and a half inch wide.
Turn off the machine, push that lever in, then, and it may resist some, pull it toward yourself until it snaps fully to the front of the machine.
Normally what happens is people hit it with the top of their hand removine their copies.
You can take a piece of electrical tape or duct tape and put over it to secure it in place.
You can also, remove the seal glass, the piece of glass about 1 inch wide on the left side of the scanner. It just has 2 phillips screws in it. This with the machine unplugged, and pop that green latch out and flip it around. There is a tab that will keep it from moving. That latch is for shipping purposes.
Dismantling Printer to be able to carry down stairs.
Yeah. On the back of the document feeder there is one white molex connector. Unscrew the 2 thumb screws and lift up and puch back gently while lifting the feeder. The hinges will release pretty easily, then set it aside.
Also the paper tray, pull it forward, then up and out.
Removing those will make it much easier to move.
If you have a third tray, it should just be sitting on it. If the did install the clips, take the back cover off and remove the screws and plate. But most M20s with a lower tray, they just sit on the machine.
If it is conncected to a stand, just remove the back screws and lift it off the stand.
How to change the default scan resolution on M20i?
You need to go to the printers webpage from your Web Browser
http://192.168.1.100 or something like that. Then, go into Properties tab, and then the Services Dropdown. Under that, go into Email Settings and then Email Setup. Change your DPI to as high as 600dpi, then scroll to the bottom and hit save. You'll be prompted for a password which is either Admin / 1111 or 11111 / x-admin
:)
Copies come out blank
Scanner lock is on. Should have heard a noise or popped an L code but I have seen this happen as well.
Have a Xerox M20i. Copy
You need to clean the scanner. You can try doing the shading adjustment to calabrate the scanner but most likely the mirrors are hazed up. Since you can print fine you eliminate the laser.
To do the shading adjustment, you need to press in order,,, Menu # 1934, You will see a " T "on the screen, that will be the tech mode. Press the machine status, then go to maintenance, then scroll to shading. Place 5 sheets of white paper on the glass and then run the shading adjustment. turn the machine off and on, and run copies again. But most likely you will have to take the scanner off and clean it.
If you want to clean the scanner let me know, I will send you directions on how to do that. The mirrors in that scan head tend to haze up.
Xerox workcentre m20i turns off
Sounds like the machine software is corrupted.
Try this first. Turn the machine off, then on back, there is a panel on the back cover with to plastic tabs that will release it. Pop that off and remove both memory sticks.
With the sticks removed, turn the machine on and let it come to ready. Shut the machine off , replace the memories and turn the machine back on, That reloads the machine software cleanly.
If that does not work. Go to Xerox.com, click on support and drivers, enter M10 into the search box, then click on Drivers and Downloads. Once there go to the firmware and download in with the instructions . I think the level is at 3.04 now. follow the instructions to install the firmware.
One of those 2 should resolve your problem.
