SubZero 532 frig lights out

There are two door switches one for fan and the other for the lights. With the compressor running, there are two so yu need to make sure it is the refrigerator and not the freezer, open the door and press the right switch and listen for a fan. The left should be your light switch and the problem is generally in the switch, on rare occasions there is a failure of bi-metal safety switch part number 4200850. One very rare occasions you may have a wiring proble. If you go to www.subzero.com there is a showroom locator tab on the top right corner, click it and you will go to a locator page which will get you to your local parts didtributor.

No cooling

Look at the back wall on the left hand side. "near the middle shelf"If you find a wet spot or ice ball odd are you will need a Evaporator coil.See if the fan is running when you open the door. By pushing the fan and light switch closed. "light will go out, Fan should come on" easy way to see if thermostat is telling the compressor to run"

What kind of freon does this model refrigerator need

Most all Domestic refrigerators these days use R134 refrigerant such as yours most likely uses. The easiest way to assure what type of refrigerant would be to access the compressor area and look on the side of the compressor. All compressors have a tag showing what type of refrigerant is used in the unit. If you have any further questions or if you need a detailed schematic showing how to access the compressor area message me back your complete model number and I will provide one for you. Thank you,RickP.s. Never assume a unit uses one type or another types such as R11,R12, and R22 are being phased out due to government regulations on the hazzardous chemicals found in refrigerants such as these. It is always best to check the compressor for the labeling tag.

What kind of freon does this model take

it should be on the data plate, but it should definately be on the compressor. R-22 is the most popular, but R-134a is another popular choice. you can tell as soon asyou connect your gauge manifold and take some pressure readings.

Our sub-zero refrigerator has not been cooling properly and mold builds up near the bottom

My Sub Zero 561 would lose cooling in the main fridge area over time and I would usually turn the thermostat down. This helped but I'd get an ice buildup on the back wall of the fridge, especially if it was packed full of stuff and didn't allow for air movement. I finally removed everything, removed the back panel to the fridge, and discovered that the entire rear area was a solid block of ice. A defrost fixed it but I had to turn up the thermostat to keep it from coming back. Now it works great after driving me crazy for years.

The cold control needs replacing. Thats the knob with the numbers that turn the Ref OFF and ON.
What I do is call my local Appliance Parts Store with my model no. They are extremely helpful .
Get freezer and ref thermometer. Ref is probably too cold.
Freezer should be 0 to 10 degrees. Ref 33 to 35

THE FILL TUBE IN BACK OF REFRIGERATOR CAN SLIP

RUN WATER IN TUBE TO ELININATE BLOCKAGE AND CHECK

Model 561 ref side is

Hi

First check whether the air flow vents have become blocked with stored it.ems. The air from the freezer circulates through the vents to cool your refrigerator. If you store an item in front of the vent it prevents the free flow of the cooled air thus freezing items in the refrigerator. So check whether you have organized the item in your fridge without blocking the vents or not .

Then check the overall internal refrigerator temperature. The proper temperature should be between 35 and 42 degrees. Here are some things to try:

If your refrigerator temperature is closer to 35 degrees, try turning the temperature up slightly. If you find that the temperature varies a lot from the top shelf to the bottom (where it is coldest), try putting produce and other sensitive products on a higher shelf. If the temperature is too low and you can't make it warmer by adjusting the thermostat, you probably have a defective thermostat. If so, you need to replace it, because they cannot be repaired. Other possible problems are a leak in the sealed (refrigerant) system, cold air migration (in side-by-side models) or a defective air damper. These problems can be quite difficult to locate and correct, we recommend you contact a qualified appliance repair technician.

I inherited a March 1990 Sub-Zero (Model

if it's a side by side open both doors and look up,if you see three screws remove them or if the fridge door is on top open it and remove screws if they are there going up into top panel, then tilt the top panel down from the top and remove the springs, then remove the top front panel,on the left side you need to remove the two fillips screws and remove that panel, unplug the evap fan motor wire harness, then vac out any lint and dust you see on the coil and in the cabinet and off of all the walls and ceiling, then cover the opening with a towel, a shop vac works great because it blows on the other end,set it on blow and blow through the coil on the side opposite the fan and the towel will hold all the dust inside the cabinet, when you work on the coil use the brush attachment so you don't damage the coil, the fins bend easy and it will stop the air flow, stop blowing and vac up all the stuff that blew out of the coil, keep doing this until nothing blows out, then blow through the fan side, then vac up all the stuff, keep doing this until it looks clean and nothing is blowing out of the coil, you can stick a light on the side opposite the fan and look at it through the fan side,if you can see the light clearly then the coil is clean.do this once every 6 to 12 months and you'll be fine.hope this helps you out,

Our subzero model 561 is

This describes a defrost problem. Most fridges are cooled by the freezer but the sub zero has a separate system for the fridge and freezer.

The evaporator coil behind the cover on the back wall inside the freezer will ice up under normal conditions. Every 8 to 10 hours for around 20 minutes the defrost timer (or in most newer models the electronic adaptive defrost control) will turn the defrost heater on to melt the built up ice. There is a defrost thermostat which prevents the heater from overheating the freezer by breaking the heater circuit when the temp reaches close to 32 degrees F. The entire cooling system shuts off during the defrost cycle and starts back when the timer advances through the cycle.

If this ice is not melted it will continue to build up until the air can't flow over the coil to circulate the cold air through the freezer and into the fridge. The temperature change in the fridge is usually noticed first followed by the freezer.

If the defrost thermostat is bad, it can prevent the heater from coming on OR it won't turn the heater off when it gets too warm. It is clamped to the evaporator coil at the top to sense the temp. If it appears to be misshapen it is bad.
With an ohm meter it should show continuity when cold and none when warm.
You can also bypass(disconnect the two wires plugged into it and twist them together) the thermostat to see if the heater comes on then. If it does then you know the thermostat is bad and needs replaced.

The defrost heater is located on the evaporator. It is in a tube which is at the bottom and can also go up the sides of the evaporator. On some types you can see a burnt spot if it's bad. With an ohm meter it should show continuity from end to end when disconnected from the wiring in the freezer. You can also test the wiring for voltage when it's in the defrost mode.

If you have a defrost timer you can test it. It can be located under the fridge behind the kick panel on the front. Some are in the fridge with the controls at the top. You can turn the defrost timer till it clicks and everything shuts down. The heater should now come on. If it does, replace the timer because that means the timer is not running. If it doesn't, check the heater and defrost thermostat. Turn the timer again till everything starts back up to end the defrost cycle.

If you have an adaptive defrost control instead of a timer, replace it if the heater and thermostat test good. It is located in the fridge with the controls in some models and on the back in others.
