Hi qlane1,
First make sure that the sound is not in "mute"
mode.
Plug your headset to the earphone
jack (if installed) of the TV.
If you can hear the sound there, the fault may due to
open(defective) internal
speakers or the earphone jack itself. Faulty internal speaker
may replaced with new sets to back your sound to normal again. If
the earphone jack was faulty, you may spray it first with electrical contact cleaner while inserting and pulling the headset plug into it for one
minute to clean the contact. If nothing happens, this
jack need to replaced with new one.
If you can't hear the sound after inserting your headset, this is
an indication that the audio
circuitry was gone bad. The
most common caused of this trouble was the faulty sound IC(mounted in heatsink).
This is the one converts the audio signal to sound and feed to
your speaker's. I would advice you to look for a qualified technician to check
this parts.
Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!
Thanks for using Fixya.

When i put a dvd
Hi,
how long have you been using this player? I suspect the laser (lens) of the player. I think the laser (lens) is weak that's why it cannot read data/files on DVD discs.
To confirm if actually its a laser problem, insert an Audio CD into the player and see if will play. If it plays, then obviously, your laser (lens) is weak. But if it doesn't play Audio CD, then it might still be the laser (lens) or a mechanism problem.
Get a lens cleaner, use it to clean the lens. If that doesn't solve the problem, get a screw driver, open the player's cover so that you can gain access to the lens, use a cotton board to clean the surface of the lens. This should clean dust or dirt that might be on the lens.
If non of the above solves the problem, then know that you need to replace the laser to a brand new one.
To replace the lens, remove the bad laser, use it as a sample to get exactly the same type and do the replacement. Note that replacing a laser (lens) needs a professional touch, so if you cannot replace the laser, get it to a repairman to fix it for you.
Once this us done, your player will play all DVD discs again.
Regards.

I need a replacement AC
Hi, i have personally substituted laptop power supplies for those kind of televisions-make sure the power supply you get is of similar power rating, it should tell you the needed D.C. voltage and M.A. requirements maybe near the power jack-or somewhere on the label. Used power supplies are common at televised thrift stores. Just make sure polarity matches on power supply and tv-careful not to try and force jack into tv-it should slide right in. the voltage is usually 18 to 24 volts with an amperage of 2.5 to 4 amps, or 4000ma or something to that effect, hope this was helpful, Prodzilla

The lens cleaner will not work if the disc wont move. It sounds like the drive motor is blown. Could possibly be a fuse, but if your not experienced troubleshooting electronics I do not suggest you fix it yourself. Honestly it would be cheaper to buy a new dvd player than having this one fixed.

Magnovox analog tv converter box power light is on
Hi,
The issue you describe is consistent with a power supply board issue. This is the board where the AC goes to. This problem may have occurred as a result of irregular power supply, or excess power supply or power surge.
The TV is receiving current but cannot circulate or transfer the current to other necessary part of the TV because of the defective power supply board.
I do not think it needs replacement, rather some defective capacitors are causing this issue.
Open unit up and take a look at the power supply board. You will probably see one or more electrolytic filter capacitors that are bulged up in the top-not perfectly flat like the others.
The value of these capacitors will be different, most likely they will be somewhere around-820 to 2200uF/25 V( or /10V sometimes)
You can replace them with same values but I would recommend the voltage rating to be higher(like 35V for an original 25V) for reliability purposes.
What happens is,these bulged top capacitors will cause a low and unfiltered DC voltage=main board will malfunction(the relay will keep clicking until the caps are holding enough charge to bring the voltage up over a threshold point).
You can buy these capacitors at any Fry's or Radioshack store or you can order them online at vendors like "mcmelectronics.com"(look for electrolytic capacitors).
After replacing these capacitor(capacitors) most likely the normal operation will be restored.
Note: There may be also some other causes for this symptom ,like a defective T con board ,or main board, but the bulged top capacitors are the most common cause for this issue.
If you don't know about TV repairers, take the TV to the nearest repairman to fix the fault for you. Also, note that TV stores a lot of current, so wait a while before opening the TV back cover.
I hope this helps.
Good luck.

Wont read dvd or cd
The problem is the laser pickup assembly, the laser pickup gets weaker overtime until it can not read the disc, or the pladder motor becomes defective. One possible solution is clean the laser lens with a Q-Tip and rubbing alcohol, carefully clean the lens and wipe excess off. If this fails it is cheaper to replace the dvd player.

I have an older VHS/DVD Polaroid DVS2000 player.
You can try cleaning with a dvd disk cleaner but, generally when this happens the laser assembly needs replaced. You can try a local repair shop but, most people will just buy another DVD system.

Cannot watch tv, just DVD. cannot correct
The controller processor has failed. Since it's a 64 pin chip soldered on the mainboard of the tv and not available separately the only thing you can do is to replace the mainboard. The real problem will be in finding one since Audiovox is a no-name brand that doesn't manufactures the parts themselves - they buy ready made components as cheaply as possible, assemble them as cheap as possible and slap a badge on the finished product. Try the local repair shops or on Ebay, you might find a second-hand mainboard for around $150.
Otherwise you will just have to get a new tv.

Along the top of the picture on the screen is
You are saying about a horizontal green belt acorss the screen at the top. It can be due to main power supply [regulated power supply inside your tv]. Check it whether proper power supply is there or not. Normall it shuld be between 110 to120VDC. Different manufactures have different operating voltages. You should refer to the schematic digram of your tv.
An other cause ca be the lack of voltage, or improper voltage to vertical output section. I thing that you haven't replaced the deflection yoke of your tv till now. If deflection yoke have been replaced, convergence assembly at the neck of the picture tube should be aligned properly to rectify this probelm. Contact an experienced service personal. Ok.

I just had a cable box hooked up to my Audiovox
If the DVD is playing well on the TV then it is possible that the tuner of the TV is faulty.Replace with the same type.If however there is absence of picture even with the DVD then it is possible that the IF section/decorder/AV signalprocessing sections can be defective.
The test to find out the failure of the suspected section is by a voltage check or a signal analysis with a CRO----Since this is beyond the scope of a DIY iwould advise thatyou take help.
Finally take a quick checkfor break of working voltage to the above sections.Check the 12V and 5V rail to these sections.Apossible fusible open resistor regulator in this section must be checked.
